Download for fullsize if it's been shrunk for you.This suggestion was inspired by this thread: [link] started by someone looking for a way to get more people to actually read Group Rules before joining, and encourage Groups to put their rules in an easily-found spot.
What's crazy is, this Module technically already exists! (Including the Facebook Share link, which is why I didn't comment on it.) It's just confined to the "Join Page" every Group used to have at http://
So this suggestion is basically taking that module, tweaking it a little, and sticking it in a more useful and prominent spot on a Group's page.Edit: Oh god, another Daily Deviation.

dA just got rid of the Group Join pages. This could mean they are bringing a module to the homepage...

Possibly, although my cynical side thinks that after reading this comment: [link] it's probably more just DA realizing they ought to get around to cleaning up a broken area they can no longer rely on being "hidden".

Would it be possible to have a short summary of the group rules next to each one in the add to group section. I find even if you read the rules iit's not always possible to remember them when summmiting to a lot.

It might be, but that would be a separate suggestion. This isn't a real script or anything, and I have no power over DA modifying the existing setup.
You should make your own visual suggestion and post it.

I just started running a group about a month or so ago (well it sorta got dropped on me but i volenteered for it so i'm not complaining) and i'm really new to everything. This is sooo very very helpful you have no idea.I didn't even know these things existed. I'm just really slow with discovering these things myself and i think you did a good job showing and explaining this

Well, actually, this idea doesn't exist. Or rather, it sort of exists, but in a way that's not actually connected to anything at the moment. If you want to use the Join page right now, you have to link to it somehow from your front page and hope people notice it. This was more an idea that DA actually put it somewhere more noticable.
On another note, if you ever need any help figuring out how to do something with your Group, please feel free to drop me a comment or something and I'll try to help if I can.

Just realised that last comment sounded quite negative, and wanted to specify that it wasn't you that the negativity was directed at!
I would like to see the join module be more prominent and I am glad that you made the suggestion. It's well written and neatly designed. I would prefer the join page to be made prominent by having the "join this group" button link to the join page though - group homepages can already get quite cluttered.

Hmm. Do you mean it doesn't work in the sense of people not noticing it, or does it not work in the sense that if you click on the Join buttons on that page, it doesn't work properly? Granted, I get the feeling right now that it's more a half-finished idea that never got fully implemented, so it wouldn't be surprising that it's buggy. I'd assume/hope that if they ever implemented it for real they'd iron out the problems.
Yeah, `namenotrequired made the same suggestion that DA instead simply link the Join button to the Join page, and I agree that would also be a good measure. I just admittedly like having the rules easily findable on a Group's front page, and it would be nice to not have to sacrifice a free group's only Custom module for the purpose.
Maybe if we had both solutions: an optional Join module for those who like displaying rules front and center and the button link to the actual page for those who want a sparser front page.

I mean that if you click on the buttons you get an error message that doesn't make any sense. I eventually got a reply out of the helpdesk team regarding this and was told "I'm sorry but this page was never intended to be continued to be used after Alpha Testing for Groups which is the reason why it's not functioning properly. I apologize for the confusion and frustration this has caused."
So I guess we're stuck with a broken join page

It already exists but it doesn't work. All the groups I know that use it have bugs, including my own.

In my groups, sometimes the permissions "reset" themselves and I have to go in and reset all the permissions.. again... and again.... I'll find out when members will say, "none of the galleries are letting me to submit!"
I hope the bugs in the groups are fixed because I've heard dA wants to raise the cost of a premium membership for groups from $60 to $120. To me, $60 is too high. $45 would be better.

No, it works fine on the main page. But when people click the MEMBERS button (on the join page) they get a message about the group not accepting ADMINISTRATORS. It makes no sense. The group has never had an administrators button nor accepted administrators so I don't know why the button has the wrong message. Other groups have reported the same error message with the join page too, so I'm pretty sure it's broken for everyone.

Facebook isn't on DA, there's just a Share button on the Join page for Groups, for whatever reason.

And yeah, me too. I have one Group I run where people not reading the rules before attempting to join is such a pain. I checked... out of 43 join requests, only 17 were from people actually eligible to join, even though the eligibility requirements are spelled out clearly in the rules on our front page. Argle. (And, some of that 17 is from people responding to an invitation they didn't get a chance to accept before it expired, so really the actual ratio is even worse.)
