Description Another walk-through here from the second issue of Abe (my favorite of the two). Again, I do things a little differently now after the many hard lessons learned from these two issues. Did I mention that this series was the first time I inked myself two issues in a row on a deadline? It was pretty much nothing but lessons! But holy cow was it rewarding, and more importantly, FUN!

Do you use brushes to inking?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JHarren In reply to Monyo [2011-11-02 10:13:43 +0000 UTC]

thanks! I use brushes and technical pens (microns among others)

Monyo In reply to JHarren [2011-11-02 19:23:12 +0000 UTC]

You develop a style very cool, very dynamic and with great presence.

I still doubt my inking. I have strong influences, very different.
I like very neat ink, thick strokes, lines and more Manga, more loose and nervous.
I'm hoping to start a job a little more staff to seek their identity.

MATT-A-NASHI [2011-10-30 22:03:23 +0000 UTC]

I just picked up the 2nd issue yesterday! Great job! Freaky "hidden skull" (mom monster) towards the end! I used to do really tight pencils, but I felt 'bored' during the inking phase. So in order not to loose interest (which happens if a piece takes too long) - I keep pencils fun/ loose, and have fun AGAIN, discovering in the inks!

JHarren In reply to MATT-A-NASHI [2011-10-31 10:13:23 +0000 UTC]

that's a good way to put it; discovering in the inks. When you sublimate ink to the process of tracing you can lose so much life!

man, thanks for sharing. this is amazing. What changes did working on this series cause?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JHarren In reply to dio-03 [2011-10-30 07:30:51 +0000 UTC]

thanks, dude! After this I slowly phased out the pencilling process. I go from non-photo blue directly to ink. I'm also making more efforts to not suck at inking or drawing. Plus I do tighter layouts now so I run into less drawing problems in the later stages. There's really too many things to name. Drawing 44 pages in a row as a new guy will give you more lessons than successes and if you take those lessons to heart your bound to change.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

dio-03 In reply to JHarren [2011-10-30 14:09:39 +0000 UTC]

thats awesome to hear man. Yeah, i completely omitted the pencilling stage too. saved my life really. it was when i saw a canete page in real life. I was like " wait... you can just ink over the blue?" Best of luck man. All the right people are probably already talking about you.

JHarren In reply to dio-03 [2011-10-31 10:16:11 +0000 UTC]

thanks, dude! It was a rough lesson to learn but it's saving tons of time! Which you don't have a lot of when you handle the inking chores as well.

what inking tools are you using? is this all brush, or are there technical pens involved too?
