Description
I feel numb a lot, to the point that it seems normal. It's not normal though, and it's a somewhat maladapted stress response.
Certainly, it's useful in intense situations - I'm able to remain detached, putting the emotion aside until I'm in an environment where I feel safe confronting it.
On the other hand, it means that I tend to ignore problems rather than doing something about them - it leads to avoidance behaviours.
While the ability to be detached it a useful skill to learn, being numb is no way to live life. My experience has taught me that it's necessary to learn other methods of coping in order to really be functional, and make the most out of life.
I'm still working on that bit though .

I'm often the same way. Really hard to change those habits, but I think I'm getting better and better at it, slowly

Yeah, it is tough. As they say, old habits die hard.
It's good you've improving though, and at least you're aware of it.
It's taken a long time to realise just how much it affects me.

Same for me, I've actually had some close friends point it out to me in recent years, so I try to acknowledge and fight that habit better.
