Description
RIGHT CLICK TO LOOPA little swordplay animation... Rotoscoping is fun... Yep.
Right now, it's only in its most crude form - I was going to make it longer, but I thought this was an appropriate place to end it. I hope to make this into a proper animation of Jayli some day. Y'know, properly drawn with colour and a background... *sighs wistfully* Oh well...
~6 hours. 65 frames rotoscoped. Drawn in Adobe PhotoShop 7.0, tested in Microsoft GIF Animator, presented in Flash. 20.

Thank you kindly! Β I'm honestly not much of an animator, but I agree, it would be nice to have the chance to give it another go!

Have you thought about doing tons more action scenes?

I don't have the time, honestly. Β I do artwork full-time as a job, so I don't get to choose what I work on, and once I'm done work, I don't want to do more art XD

Yeah of course! Well if anything it's best to study other action sequences from others, reference left and right until you get better and better at it really~ I go to Sakugabooru to look up some decent cuts of animation to gain some ideas and such. Why not give that a shot?Β

Heh, again, I don't really have the time :b Β Most of my artwork is paid work for other people where I don't get to pick what I'm doing. Β It's how I pay rent/bills/such, so I don't have as much time to do personal art.

Do you have any pointers/advice on animation?

jocarra In reply to Dandedoodles [2010-05-23 00:49:26 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately not! It's not exactly my forte - this for example was rotoscoping, which anyone can do - it's basically like traditional motion capture where you trace over a model's movement and then redraw it as the appropriate character.

Rotoscoping? How would you trace over the captured video? Do you slow it down frame by frame and then work off the frames in a digital program?

jocarra In reply to Dandedoodles [2010-05-23 22:39:36 +0000 UTC]
Yes, that's it exactly.
That's how Disney animators did the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, for example, in the first Fantasia movie. Got a dancer to come in, filmed her, and then had the animators trace over her and redraw her as a fairy, to make sure the dance movements looked good and were correct.

Oh wow. Okay then. Any program suggestions then?

For animation? I guess I'd recommend the usual Adobe Flash, for starters.
For something simpler, I use a free downloadable Microsoft GIF animator, which just links pre-existing frames you've made together to make an animated GIF. I used it and Adobe Photoshop to make my avatar, for example - made the individual frames in PS, and put them together in the GIF animator.
If you don't have it already, Adobe Photoshop is just kind of a standard for any graphics, although not necessary.

Hard to explain concisely, but she's basically the female in these pictures: [link]
She's one of two main characters from a novel I've been working on since 1997.

Your work... just awesome.
I have a request to you, please. I draw a cartoon with my friends and there is a scene of battle. Can I use your work as the basis for one of the scenes? I promise to give a credit on you in the end
