To be fair, it was the 60s...

Spider-Man's costume came from the 60s, too. It's no excuse!
Seriously...nothing about the costume says "Vanisher", except that anyone who put it on would want to be IN-FREAKIN-VISIBLE. Though, you could probably find a market for those goggles.

Maybe that was the point of the costume.

As for Spidey, well, it turned out to be a timeless costume that worked. Which is one reason why I wasn't too fond with Superman's costume change in the New 52. It had worked since the 1930s, what happened?

There are a few costumes I consider to be iconic enough that major change is not needed. Villain costumes from Marvel in the 60s, not so much. Mostly, they're throwaway designs, and not meant to be memorable or interesting, partly because the Comics Code discouraged making bad guys look good. Vanisher is just awful. He has a truly great power, but except for his avant gard eyewear, his costume is only memorable because it's so laughable. Later, they eliminated the little black squiggle on the breast, but that doesn't help. Poor guy was reduced to dressing like a mime, later, still. No one should have to suffer that, no one.
Truly, the Vanisher is one of those villains who should wear utterly forgettable street clothes, to work. He should vanish into a crowd, long before he teleports into a bank vault to vanish some fat stacks. He should be a freaking legend...an X File...a story bankers tell their colleagues about, but deny in public. And,of course, a lady-killer.
