Description
This is my first quick experiment with dForce and Daz Studio 4.10 and Iray. I didn't have any dForce clothing, but discovered that you can add a dynamic dForce modifier to any object. After trying it on some existing clothing, I decided to go very basic and just apply a dForce modifier to a plane (with 100 division) and drape them over some System 46 figures. Thank you, It started out as simple dynamic sheet ghosts, which I never find creepy. So I tried to increase the creepiness by making the sheets clear plastic

Excellent composition and lighting.
I can see tons of possibilities with dForce...

Nicely done! Makes me want to try it myself. Any issues with 4.10?

Thank you, 4.10 was the easiest update to DAZ studio I have experienced. dForce takes a lot of experimentation on older clothing, This test required a lot of cleanup and still has many problems

Thanks! Good to know about 4.10. dForce results look good enough to work through the problems. I'll take the plunge.

Thank you, the only one I have watched was this one
dForce updates and you!I was thinking about doing a tutorial on how to update older clothing items to dForce, but it turns out Mada has already done a really great one here:
The only thing I think she might've left out is that you don't need that little weight map token saved, it's only there for editing purposes. You save the weight maps by re-saving the clothing to the library (this will save your altered material settings as well).
There's also an option now that when you save a material to library, you can save just the simulation settings, so you can apply them over any material of a given item.
The fact that the clothing has to be fully resaved to update the weight map means I can't do a lot of free dForce add-ons for different things as I'd hoped, sadly, but it's not that hard for anyone to do, so please give it a look!
I'm not allowed to offer a dForce item in another store or as a freebie for 60 days, until the day after Christmas to be safe. I do want to offer Daz a couple of things I'v

May I ask how you DForced up the sheets? I had a little play, but could not figure it out, and the DAZ tutorials have not proved helpful... How do you make it see a plane (or other item) as cloth that can be DForced...?

JoePingleton In reply to Euskelo [2017-10-31 17:11:26 +0000 UTC]
I make a plane with at least 100 divisions and then in the "Simulation Settings" tab select "dForce>Add dForce Modifier: Dynamic Surface" from the menu next to the simulate button.

Thank you very much for explaining that. I have not been able to find the place to add a dForce modifier (I opened Simulation Settings, but could not see where to add it), but I am sure a tutorial somewhere will explain.

So to get it to drape over the heads like that do I add a plane? Love the effect

JoePingleton In reply to beachlegs [2017-10-29 20:44:20 +0000 UTC]
Thank you, It is just a plane placed above the figure with at least 100 divisions. Then I applied a dForce dynamic modifier from the menu. Then just ran the simulation. The one in the front is simply moved so that it fell on her shoulders

Thank you for the encouragement. I try to do an experiment each day. I learn so much even if they don't work the way I wanted.
Dynamic clothing never looks right to me. Simulation is a pain and always takes a lot of patience and tweaking. dForce at least is a step in the right direction. Hopefully we will get some better info on how to use it as people start playing with it

Thank you, I am so happy that it can be applied to anything. I was worried that it would work like the old dynamic cloth stuff that had to be specifically made to be compatible with DAZ Studio

I was very reluctant to upgrade DAZ Studio, usually it's a real pain. I was pleasantly surprised that the update went so easy. I had to do a double take to see if it went through because I didn't have to update anything manually.
The first thing I tried was hair. It seems to work well with older hair that is a solid object. The hair that has lots of strands not so much

kittenwylde In reply to JoePingleton [2017-10-29 14:49:36 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I had a similar experience with the upgrade. There's that feeling of dread, the "oh shit, here we go again, will this break the CMS?" moment, and then... relief. It worked fine.
Thanks for the hair tip! It's almost time, I'm going to get to play with it today.
