I render most images within seconds using 16gb of 2400mhz RAM and a quad core 4.4ghz

WOW! I can render like 3 sample renders in seconds I want something with a Nvidia 960 4 GB GTX in it, so renders can be a breeze

I'm not going to upgrade my 690 anymore... it still beats the 970 and almost ties with the 980 and I want to go DDR4 next time

I've heard that the 780 is a really good card since it's essentially the same GPU as the Titans, is it any good?

mrkoendb In reply to Terrance8d [2015-05-08 01:05:46 +0000 UTC]
Get a 970 instead, it's better... Or a 980 if you have the money.
And no, the 780 doesn't even near a titan, but a 970 does though

Hmm. I believe I heard somewhere that the GTX 780 and the Titan use the same processing unit. Not sure anymore. When I actually need to upgrade (using the 760 FTW at the moment) I'll see if I can snag the 980 since it's a dual GPU.

it is not actually, the 980 is a single chip card
still a beast though

I was doing some random research on the 780 while I wait for a render to finish up, turns out the Titan series and the 780 are indeed the same GPU. It's the GK110 processing unit, my 760 is GK104. The only differences between the Titan and the 780 are the VRAM and the clock speed, some different features as well.

How can an outdated 690 beat a 970? Or did you mean 960?

the gtx 690 1.5 years ago, the dude was desperate and wanted to buy something else(I have no clue what, but idc), so he sold one of his gtx 690's from his dual setup.
same went for my monitor, I bought an alienware 120hz (back in the day 550$) monitor for 190$ from some pothead who probably needed the quick cash for more pot...

I think action games can actually improve your eye's tracking ability, I don't think they improve your ability to see though.

Yes, that's probably better. I can't really play a lot of games being on Linux, but I think it's a great way to wind down a bit. Sometimes when I get sick of Blender, I play a couple racing games, sometimes that even inspires me to do something!

Well, perhaps... The 2 times I've played games, I couldn't stop... I wanted to sit there playing the entire It was a Wii that I played... My Mom said it was okay, but when my Dad arrived, he told he he really didn't want me playing games...

Yes, that's the "everything in moderation" phrase. One of the only games I've played on Linux is "HCraft", which is a surprisingly challenging Hovercraft racing game. One of the shared libraries got deleted though, so the game won't launch anymore.
Games definitely aren't something to waste the entire day on, a few minutes can be fine though.

Yeah, that can be a problem.
I was waiting for some feedback the other day on my Barcelona chair so I played a game called Floating Point for a little while.
That's a really good game to play to relax, because there's not enough going on that you want to play it all day, but it's great for passing some time while waiting for some feedback.;D
