I agree that Spitfire is pulling a BonBon with the different voice but it was tolerable. To those complaining she acted too mean/bitchy in this episode, she's a drill sergeant, what did you expect? That's kind of her job (disciplining and training potential recruits). And I like how Rainbow Dash was in this episode, too often her 'competitiveness' and 'maintaining her image as the "cool pony"' is overplayed to where she comes off as a jerk who seems to not learn her lesson. I also like that this a loose reference to Top Gun with elements of those 70's/80's boot-camp/cop movies. So overall a good episode. And I laughed how this episode was accidentally released early.

But her role is to lead the Wonderbolts not train them. I could have lived with the voice if it was a different pony. But Spitfire has been established as the captain of the Wonderbolts, not the drill sergeant who trains new recruits.

The voice of Spitfire in this episode is definitely a mixed bag with people, some people like it and some people hate it, I just found it tolerable that's all and was saying Spitfire was pulling a BonBon. With her being a drill sergeant, maybe the writers wanted to expand her role with the Wonderbolts a bit I don't know. I liked the episode, I'm not saying it's consistent with earlier episodes, but then again MLP doesn't always have 100% continuity with more minor characters. So whether she fit or not as the drill sergeant is up to opinion.

Funny thing is, according to what I can find, it's the same voice actress... if you watch the "At Best Night Ever" and "Hurricane Fluttershy", her voice tends to change a fair bit in every episode she's in, yet it's the same person each time... it's... weird.

No it's not the same VA. She was originally voiced by Maryke Hendrikse. She is now voice by Kelly Metzger.
