Description
There is nobody on the platform (after all, who actually uses Issingham Street station anyway?) and Joelle rushes into the station building . She spots a sign for the Ladies' Toilets and although the polite norms of society will not be an obstacle to stop her pursuer entering the women's toilet facilities, Joelle still feels a draw to this room for an instinctive feeling of greater security she cannot explain nor justify.

She pushes the door open and peers in.

No one here!

She hurries to the further of the two stalls and pulls the door open, enters, and shuts the door behind her.

Panicked, she can barely think straight. If he finds her here, there is nowhere else to run to: this is a dead-end as far as escape goes.

She is unsure what to do, but in the absence of time to figure out the pros and cons and then weigh them up, she opts for what feels like safety and sits on the lowered toilet lid with her feet up so that it appears the stall is empty from the outside.

Joelle whispers a silent prayer that she vaguely remembers from Sunday School but is not sure she is even reciting the correct words, and waits fearfully, hoping that the police find her before her pursuer does.
