You know, I admire the game for it's wacky atmosphere (in the first half), and the amusing cut-scenes.
But the game play itself got tedious as all hell, and the QTEs were forgiving.
The character was fun, but the game was not. How the hell does that happen?
I'd buy the anime, but I would not buy a sequel to this.
So I am glad that I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Bayonetta may well be the first videogame character where I think the cosplayers look a lot better than the actual videogame character, given that they actually have human proportions.

not really guys. Honestly The digs on her proportions isn't at her chest or ass. Its the fact that she has the literal scale of a nine foot tall person.

Your comment in the description kinda reminds of the comments of japanese developpers, which themselves felt that the japanese industry was starting to be "done for" creatively, in face of the western industry's growth.

Sorry man, but when I played the game I felt like every attack I got hit by in Bayonetta was my own fault, because most attacks in that game have a start up animation, and you can use the dodge button at any time during a combo, I've been hearing from, a lot of people that the rating system is very harsh, but I tend to get a pretty decent ranking when I play, and I am by no means a master at these types of games. I like Bayonetta, and not even for it's over the top sexuality, which I could really take or leave, but I really for the gameplay and controls, I feel that they give you everything you need when you need it, to survive through the game, you can dodge any attack at any time, and they actually make use of all the different combos they put in the game, as diffrent combos are more effective on diffrent enemy types. Overall: Good game.

not payback, just like the mutated trees near Cyrnobyl, it's just how they adapted to life in the radiation field. They survived, but they turned out a little weird.

MetalDragoon In reply to Allystra [2010-04-03 03:17:19 +0000 UTC]
This is more than "just a little weird". I seriously think that a lot of studios are sacrificing great gameplay for artistic venue. Take FF 13 for instance. There're only 6 summons in the entire game, one for each PC. I miss when you had at least 10 of them, and you could assign them to different PCs, or even swap them between PCs at will.
π: 0 β©: 1
Allystra In reply to MetalDragoon [2010-04-09 00:59:42 +0000 UTC]
Is is the Studios that are choosing to do it, or are they just limited by their medium?
The more cut-scenes and visual effects and just all around topography that you have to render, will eat up your disk space.
The poor bastards at Square Enix made a world so visually stunning that they just ran out of room for coherent plot.
Not that it makes up for what is still a linear Third-person shooter/slashup that masquarades itself as an RPG.
But that's my take on it.

I really do not want to start another flame-war over Final Fantasy. I am sure that thousands hours of people's lives are already gone due to internet ranting.
Suffice to say that what I have seen LOOKS awesome, but I know from playing Morrowind, how much a good texture rendering will eat up the disk space. I made and downloaded tons of textures and meshes and stuff and things that did not come NEAR the level of polygons in the latest Final Fantasy, yet it killed all the space on my lowly little 40GB hard Drive.

Aziraphaile In reply to ??? [2010-03-26 22:27:52 +0000 UTC]
I think about the only thing I agreed with there was the QTE's. I hate them, and I hope whichever idiot came up with the idea is suffering horribly for it.
The few times that enemies start attacks during cutscenes are annoying the first time through. Once you know they're there, it becomes a bit easier to deal with the next time around. Especially once you realise that any cutscene that doesn't contain a QTE is skippable, so you can effectively control the timing of the enemy's attack yourself.
As for the hyper-sexuality and strange proportions of the titular character, if you're taking it seriously, you're rather missing the point. Platinum have pushed things pretty far into the realm of parody, and the game is in part a rather amusing piece of commentary on the state of the industry itself.
It's basically DMC3, with the cheese-factor turned up to 11. You're not playing it for the gripping and dramatic plot, you're playing it so you can have fun killing enemies with one of the best brawler engines ever made, in the most over-the-top fashion possible. Even Bayonetta isn't following the plot, she's just there to kill a whole bunch of angels, who are apparently between her and some gemstone, and the plot winds up following her around. Mostly in the form of Luka and her time-skipping child-self.
In case I wasn't clear, I loved it. But then, I also liked DMC3, which is pretty much exactly the demographic this game was aimed at. It's basically DMC3 all over again, just with more of all the awesome parts (and the addition of QTE's, unfortunately), and it's not like it ever tries to pretend otherwise.
