Was a classic.... could do with a frame that says 'Click everything about a million times and get to the point where you have to try and click every pixel on the screen to get something to happen.'
It would be a pretty dull frame though - I will shut up now.

I'm curious which one you consider #5 to be referencing. I was able to figure it all out on my own.
...ok so there was one that took me three straight days. And when I finally got it I realized I was immensely over-complicating the problem. But still... on my own!

I completely and whole-heartedly agree. Myst was wonderful and took me a solid month.
And solving one puzzle using nothing but sound was the hardest thing I encountered.

YES. I adore that game so much. I still look back fondly on it. Out of all the ages, I loved Channelwood the most.

I got stuck and never did finish the damn thing. And I think I own the other 2 or 3 or however many there are, never installed - but I do have the soundtrack...
And for kicks and giggles: the new zone in City of Heroes, called Oroborus (because it's the time travel zone where you can relive your old missions and get badges for doing things set on different difficulties)(fun fun) actually is like "Myst meets a truly interactive game world" - it's beautiful like Myst, has soothing music, it's just a beautiful zone. Plus you can actually figure out how to use it, bonus

I remember wanting to use a Doom level editor to re-create the starting island, just to stroll about. Heh. And which puzzle was the 'most obscure'? The only true roadblock I had was that my sound didn't work right at first, so I couldn't get into the Selenitic Age. Ug.
Anyway, I concur on most of your points. Amusing guide as usual.

It was, I guess still is, a great game. You are right the landscape and all the detailes are a wonder to behold.
They just don't make games like that anymore.
I miss my MYST!

The original Myst came out when I was, I believe, twelve years old. I've followed the series ever since (and am at least partly convinced that RIVEN is one of the three greatest video games ever made).

*giggleS* *re-reads* *giggles more* I SO have to actually get the Myst games for my computer...my sisters and I used to spen HOURS playing Myst together on the old family comp when I was inle school...we'd sit there together, with one of us playing, and the other two trying to help the one playing...so far as figuring out that obscure puzzle...let's just say 3 heads, and a LOT of patients, is better than 1. ^-~

O_o actually it's point 5 that is a letdown for me.
While it IS a nice puzzle game... it's also... how to put it... obnoxious... in some puzzles.
Even once you have read the solution, you go back at the game and try to figure out what was the meaning behind the puzzle working in that way... and there is none.
Some puzzles really are on the lines of: "solve the puzzle by picking some random hints among those that we gave you because half of them are fake/misleading but there is no logical way to understand those whom are not." and there is nothing to do about it

it should, I have vista, and it lets me play games on it, though I have the home premium addition, I dont know how the other additions work. I really want to get the series once I get my own personal comp. I dont have one yet. this is one is for the whole family. and it does not have much computing cappabilities

Myst was a magical game, and I can't believe I'd say that about a game that has such simple controls.
The Myst games (1 and 2 as far as I've played) seem to have mystery and discovery (I'd say adventure, but they're just not fast paced enough), nailed.
It's a nuisance no one has made them real time... except for myst 4 and online (one in the same?), but we don't talk about them

I am not sure. I only have the freakin' old PC versions and its many sequels (Or add-ons.. Not sure. Lol.) You can probably buy it in a Book-buyers shop. They have a lot of old PC games.
PS. If you got vista, I don't think it will run on it. :c
