I actually had this conversation with someone recently. I agree that if you're sitting with a friend or even a closeish acquaintance, sticking your nose in your phone is rude. But if I'm in the break room at work doing something on my phone, isn't that my prerogative? I have no obligation to be social if someone comes and sits down at my table and I'm in the middle of something, whether they think it's inane or not.

I was at my grandparents when one of my younger cousins wouldn't give me the time of day. She sat in the living room with her nose pressed to her phone, texting away.
Texting should be banned on phones. They make it eaiser for people to bully in schools (because teens just HAVE to have expensive texting on their phone where e-mail and audio function are cheaper), and make more people look antisocial as they don't speak and just text everything, tweet it, or facebook it.

Its worse here in America, I saw a group of young women at a Movie theater sitting in a circle with their phones out texting among themselves and no one else. They didn't speak to each other, they didn't look up at each other. They just sat there eyes glued to the damn things.
