These are the exact words that spring to my mind every single time I see a group of girl-friends hanging out with each other at a local café and EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is on their mobile phone playing games and sending text messages.
Please explain to me: what is the fun of hanging out with each other if you spend every gogdamn minute of your together-ness on your phone? ;.; I just want to understand why,,,

I usually ask, loudly, if their mother is doing well in the hospital; as that is really the only reason you should have your phone on the table, during a meal.

If you're out to eat at a non-fast food place, here's what you do: have everyone stack their phones in the middle of the table. If someone takes their phone for any reason other than something important (i.e. death in the family, death of a pet, serious incident...you'll likely be able to tell from their face if it is serious/important), they pay the full bill and tip. If you can't divide on a napkin with a pen, then it looks like you're paying.
I've never tried it, of course, but I've heard good things.

That would imply that we -think- about what our technology is, and how it works, and how it interacts with the rest of the world. As a result, we would be able to use our technology in a consructive, intelligent manner compatible with our use of other things such as time, the world around us, etc.
And then what would we do with all these 'unlimited texting plans'?

I must say I'm almost amused by these people who comment "what if the whole group is using it?"... Don't they even realize how sad it is? A group of people goes out together and then they all use their mobile phone.

It's worse when you're working a retail counter, and your customer is on their phone. Of course there's a huge line up behind them, but they don't care in the slightest. You try to ask them questions about their order like if that's all they'd like, or if they want to add something to their food, but they're too busy with their phone. Sometimes I just want to snatch the phone out of their hand and toss it into the hot foods oven.

My favorite was going into a restaurant and seeing a group sitting there all texting on their phones, not actually chatting at all. Later when they got their food they still weren't chatting much but looking over at their phone to see what texts or tweets or whatever they got I assume.
