There isn't an instance where it isn't rude and if this is a person you do not talk to a lot, nothing will change if you decide to spend an instance where you are virtually 'forced' to be personable, avoiding the situation by diddling with your phone.Β

unless the beginning of those first 20 min goes something like "hey look at what found on TvTropes" then no there is no excuse. The point is, if you make no effort to communicate with the person you are sitting with then you can't just decide to fool around on your phone and isolate yourself like that. Like it's not rocket science. If you despise the person you are eating with then thats a whole different discussion, like why are you eating with them? Unless this person has the personality of a rock then there is SOMETHING you can do strike up a conversation. The whole point of sharing a dinner with someone is to bond.Β

dude. this is not rocket science. I know you cannot be so dense or hell bent on using your phone at dinner time. But using your logic there are more appropriate places and events to play candy crush than at an event that asks you to be sociable with another human being over a plate of steak. I mean why the hell is dinner the most common method of dating?Β

Seriously, you go to a restaurant with your family/friends and you don't even exchange a single word with them the whole f******g meal because you're on your phone texting or facebooking or whatever....
guys those moment should be shared with the people YOU ARE WITH not those that ARE NOT!
