Taxation is theft. It is no different from a gang running a protection racket.

Riiiiiiiiiiiiight. You do know that's not a legally or ethically sustainable position to take right? Taxation is the price of living in a society. If you want no tax, no schools, no sewage system, no hospitals, no electricity, then you're perfectly welcome to go off an live alone in the woods. Oh and you can't take a tent with you, or a gun, or a pack of matches, Or clothing. Because hey, you pay sales tax on all of those, so if you're so morally opposed to the very concept of taxation you'll just have to do without eh?

People like you are why dickheads like Trump can cut taxation of billionaires who can more than afford to contribute something to a functional society and end up fucking over everyone else needing the basic essentials to survive.

Scream-Lord In reply to Levia-the-Dragon [2018-07-08 17:01:09 +0000 UTC]

So...what you're saying is that before Government and Taxes no one was able to invent any of those things you said I can't buy and take into the woods with me? You're saying that there were absolutely no stateless and tax-less societies before government existed?

The privet sector can do all of that without tax-payer money and the sales tax is not what allows those products to exist. Privet businesses can provide all of those things for a much cheaper and more efficiently. And you might say that paying a monthly fee to a privet electric company is no different from a electricity tax but the difference is that I actually did make a contract with the privet company and it will have competition with other companies to make it cheaper or more efficient or I go to a different company that is.

I mean shit, the government can't even use the tax money to keep roads fixed while Domino's it fixing every pot hole their customers report in faster and cheaper than Uncle Sam ever could.

And Trumps tax cut was for EVERYONE not just the rich. So how does it screw anyone over to not be forced under pain of imprisonment or death to pay less money that will be wasted or lost by the government?

And that "They're rich, they can afford to pay more than me" attitude just sounds like a cartoon thief character that's stealing from people and saying "they'll never miss"

And you do know that by default a rich man pays more money than you in taxes even if you both have the same taxation percentage rate, right? If the tax rate is 10% I make $1000 a month while you make $100 I pay $100 while you pay only $10. Yes that hurts me less than you but I still pay a lot more than you do.

The private sector CAN do a lot... but it won't do anything without the ability to make a profit, and some things CAN'T make a profit if they're going to be effective. So your objectivist dogma is unsupported, and I'm tired of bickering with you.

Not true with taxes. You can pay them millions and you can still get nothing but excrement. Just look at Cleveland, Chicago, and Detroit for extreme examples.

Yup, that's why it's important to use your vote to get in a person or group who will use the funds intelligently. Because at least paying tax you have a chance of it being used for the greater good, paying no tax... well there's only one way that ends.

To answer both of you, I mean the kind you can *fucking access*, which can't be said of the US.

Yeah, people in Britain bitch about the NHS, as people bitch anywhere. Literally nobody not in the tank of lobbying interests says the US has a better system.

I can access my health care when ever I want. I can go to the doctor right this second if I need be, no waits, no nothing. The only reason America's health care has been worse was when obama tried to make it better.. and it got more expensive.. with out asking the people by the way..

Streaked-Silver name one case where critical procedures have been refused on the grounds of smoking / weight? What you are thinking of is routine procedures, you are still covered by the NHS. Everyone is no matter what, from the poorest to the rich criminal to clergy. We don't have 'coverage' you moron, right to access is given at birth and lasts until you die.

My Grandfather (Father side) had an old story about the Kings Tax Man.   He would be riding up one of the mountain trails to a village and the people would stand and when about the time he came to a tight turn a rather large stone would come crashing down, taking him off of his horse and several hundred feet down the opposite cliff.  Every year, seems that the stones lining that trail were a bit.... loose?

Yes, my family is Welsh, Great Grandfather moved here from Cardiff and we were still in the coal mining business until my father joined the Army Air Force back in the very late 1930's, there is even a mine in Tennessee named after my family, strip mine I think, I've never been there.

Only way to get rid of the tax man, a ten stone rock from thirty feet up that turns his protective helmet into a pizza platter.

"All Hail the TAX MAN, Ready.... Aim... Fire!"

A particular quote, iterated by a particular American revolutionary comes to mind when I think of taxation.  "Taxation without representation is tyranny", James Otis 1761.  Yeah I know, a really long time ago.  History is an ouroboros.  Events ineluctably repeat themselves in an interminable cycle, because, low and behold, 257 years later, a tyrannical International Trade War is underway.  Tariffs, tariffs and.....oh wait, more tariffs!

Watch the prices on all your favorite goods and services soar to new heights.  Way to go USA!  Perhaps this period in history should be designated W.T.W 1 (World Trade War 1).  It has already begun.  The resulting repercussions from this will be felt for decades to come.  Wait and see.

ybric In reply to solyent [2018-07-06 21:00:27 +0000 UTC]

What most people don't seem to realize is that the US has been in a (losing) trade war with all of these countries for decades - the tariffs for importing US-made cars to Germany or to China are insane, for example.

Up until this month, the tariff for importing US-made cars into China was 25%. They suddenly dropped it to "only" 15%.

Germany? A 10% tariff. Plus a 19% VAT.

The base automotive import tariff for the EU is 10%.

The tariff for importing cars into the US is 2.5%. Yes, that's two and a half percent.

Trump threatened to increase the US tariff to 20%, and China blinked, while Germany is freaking out, and Merkel is waffling about "negotiating" new tariffs.

solyent In reply to ybric [2018-07-06 21:38:31 +0000 UTC]

Yes.  This is insanity.  Not to mention Trump's 500 Billion tariff slap on pretty much all of China's goods imported to the US.  The situation is going to spiral out of control and when the proverbial dust settles their won't be any winners, only losers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Mauser712 In reply to solyent [2018-07-07 00:15:04 +0000 UTC]

Nobody's going to renegotiate while they're getting a sweetheart deal. Put the screws to them first, and then they will be more willing to negotiate.
