Mine go absolutely nowhere otherwise roads would be repaired, not more holey than a wedge of Swiss cheese.

Depends on which nation and which province/state you're in. For example, most GOP aligned states tend to cut taxes so they can fuck everyone but their dragons-in-human-skin overlords over. In Montana... we don't like taxes but we can -and will- begrudgingly pay them because otherwise shit goes downhill quickly. Then again, we don't exactly trust corporations all that much after the entire Copper King era...

I live on the Rust Belt. We were left to rot after the best companies went out of business (e.g: Studebaker).
Workers' dollars are funding people who refuse to look for employment.

The problem is that people trust companies a little too much in the US, when it should be no one trusts companies at all. Due to the profit motive, anything legal and illegal, moral and immoral, goes. This is especially bad after the Nixon and Reagan administrations in the US. Since Unions in the US did a rather decent job in fighting for worker rights, companies decided to quite literally to cut the middle man out of the entire equation and start cutting the workforce after automating the lines.
Add to the fact that it is far too common that people assume based on their nostalgia when the incredibly sad reality is... humans are obsolete. The only limit to replacing humans is quite literally expense. $15/hr is the minimum needed to actually survive and prosper on average and once that starts spreading, then the companies will automate faster than you can say 'oh shit'. Transportation? Replaced by Google Cars and Google Trucks. Janitorial work? Replaced with Rombas and their kind. So on and so forth.
Also, those who you consider 'refusing to look for employment' tend to be those who have talents that no longer apply in the modern workplace. Old-school metalworking with metal workshops is pretty much going the way of the blacksmith at best, metalworking in general has been replaced with incredible amounts of automation and far more efficient methods... and that is simply one example. We're essentially horses when cars started to get their stride.
So, you either tax the shit out of the rich, corporations, and stockmarkets and use that money to keep the economy going or you'll face a literal communist revolution of one variant or another sooner rather than later.

All Unions really did was transfer the exploitation of the workers from the Corporate Bosses to the Union Bosses.

In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.
— Benjamin Franklin
Besides, when you look at it, if you didn't support the government, which backs your "money", then your "money" - a fiat currency that is no longer backed by physical valuable materials such as gold, silver, gems, etc - would be worthless, and we would go into the death spiral of civilization.
And yes, the US Dollar is a fiat currency too since President Nixon took it off the gold standard.

Right. If you don't live here in Italy.
The mafia needs money to hire people, or are you ok with unemployed people?
I'm in the italian region paying the most of italian taxes (one region, more than 40% of the italian pil) and our money magically disappears in Rome senator's pocket...we are NOT happy about it, but if we protest...well, better not. Remember: mafia is one of the most efficient society in world...

It is worse.
There is a reason if here in Venice we want to break with Italy and come back to Venice republic... where only the rich ones pay taxes (I'm not kidding, more than a thousand years and no one poor ever payed a coin of taxes)...

Yeah, taxes are theft! What with good roads, functioning utilities, public education, general infrastructure, subsidized healthcare for the poor, welfare programs, corporate regulation (FDA especially), law enforcement, firefighters, not being ruled by Russia/China/Whatever warlord decides your country looks particularly juicy right now... OH WAIT.

BuT wHo WoUlD BuIlD tHe RoAdS??1!?!!
Just because it goes to those services does not mean it's not theft. The points you make, while easily refutable, are moot, and have nothing to do with the fact that taxation is legalized plunder. It is taken by force, without your consent, and if you try to do anything to stop it, you are thrown in a cage by men with guns.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2xm8f… [Corporate Avenger, "Taxes Are Stealing"] I play the HELL out of this song every April when taxes are due in the USA. Besides, someone already made reference to the Beatles song. Great work on your hamster putting a little something extra on what he has to render unto Caesar.

Not really, no. A lot of thoughts like that are often misunderstood as uniquely bad, but almost everyone on Earth hates taxes, so almost everyone has had that thought. In summary, it's not an arrogant thought.
