As you all know Ive been drawing pokemon in a realistic style for a long long time. Now there is a new artist who I very much admire called Arvalis [link]I love his work. Its strange, over the years Ive done my very best to learn to paint in different styles in an aim to improve, through that i've forgot my own style which, funnily enough is very much like Arvalis's work. If you check out some of my early sketches you can see this, though they are uncoloured as I wasn't as well versed with photoshop. Even though Im imitating his work here, im attempting to rediscover my own old style and fall back into love with art.

Personally, I don't see how this is like Arvalis at all. Arvalis isn't the only person to have done realistic Pokemon, nor is s/he the first. But I'm glad people are doing this

Well I was one of the original people to do realistic pokemon on DA, but I like Arvalis's style so I gave it a go

Wow, man, this looks excellent. I feel like your shadow placement makes his fee not look like they are on the right plane. The lineart shows that his foot placement looks good, but the shadow ruins this. Also, the color. If youre going to do a chameleon, why go so dull on your color saturation. Look at how beautiful and vibrant the colors are on this similar color chameleon [link] . I like your scale work a lot, just wish you utilized your lines more by coloring in a few specific scales to make it look more cohesive. Great work, I'd love to see more from you like this, really pushing some boundaries

I know what you mean about the colour and it was a lot brighter before, however the brighter it was the more it highlighted how flat it looked as my £D shadow and Highlighting skills need a lot of work, the duller look seemed to hide this. (cheating I know) What would you suggest with the shadows, Ive never bee able to get shadow planes right, any tricks?
When you say colouring specific scales, what do you have in mind? Sorry about this I just wanna Improve as much as possible.

Very nice work. So you use Photoshop to paint it. But I have a question: do you draw it directly on your computer or you draw it by hand and then download it to you computer? Thanxx.

I draw it directly on the computer. I used to work that way but its easier with a tablet

Its a great way to work, just make sure your pencil work is clean and precise. Best way is to either go over your rough work with a very fine tip pencil/pen and rub away the sketchy lines beneath. or trace with a fine nib pencil. also make sure your scanner is at high res to pick everything up.

Its possible to do for sure, I used to do it, but its a lot harder, my suggestion is find a cheap tablet online

(my only critique as of now is to have more colorful shading - tinting it to blue or purple might make the character look more lively.)

I've seen him before, and while I don't agree on his Nidoking, I still like his work a lot!
I also like both yours and Arvalis' renditions of Dragonite equally.
