Description
Magikarp are seen as one of the most useless pokemon known, and have no use in battle than as a distraction. Unable to learn even the most basic moves it simply splashes around limply.It was once called to be de-classified as a pokemon but was overruled due to its evolution, Gyarados, one of the most powerful dragon/water type pokemon known.
High level Magikarp are searched for in hopes to evolve them quickly. They are occasionally farmed for this purpose.
Humans occasionally eat them however they are a very gristly fish and are full of bones, this is due to the fact it goes through such a large transformation when it evolves.
Saying all of this Magikarp are extremely resilient and have been found in both salt and fresh water and even some found near underwater volcanos.

i like hw this differs from some of your previous artwork. it shows u kno how to change styles of coloring. i like the more vibrant colors. i hope you stick with it when u do gyarados

Well done; I like how well you've managed to capture Magikarp's helplessness and simplicity in the image. Jus one note about your description: Gyarados is Water/Flying, not Dragon/Water. It does get confusing because so many Dragon-users have them, but that's mainly because they can learn many Dragon-type attacks, including the exclusive Dragon Rage.
Other than that, though, well done! I look forward to seeing Gyarados!

Yes! I was waiting for Magikarp to arrive. I like how you made reference to the anime when Meowth tried to eat Magikarp but broke his teeth on him.

I think the real reason they made Gyarados part Flying was to keep him from being broken in the first generation. The difference between a 2X weakness to electric and grass would be a lot different and if he was made part Dragon at the time...oh boy he'd be almost as cheap as Mewtwo was.

I think Gyarados resembles those Chinese wingless dragons who wriggle their way through the air like snakes, thus it's flying^^
But it IS a little weird how gyarados never actually flies in the games/anime.

I noticed you mentioned "high leval" in the discription, do levals exist in the PE world?

levels are essentially assigned by the pokemon league to a pokemon physical strength and abilities, however unlike the game these can go up and down.. e.g. if a pokemon hasnt trained in ages its level will go down

I think Gyarados become part flying type because it's always in a rage and said to burn down cities and learn Bounce. Meaning that could be the possibility and 4X weakness to lighting because the sun + water = steam sweat from Gyarados maybe that lighting strikes into the vital organs.

huh?... not sure what you mean by that but honestly gyarados is built for the water and it would be silly for me to claim it could fly when im coming at it from a naturalistic angle

Heh, they no longer show Magikarp as COMPLETELY useless. A normal Magikarp learns Tackle at 10? and Flail at 15. Also, I find it interesting that in the new Pokewalker, if you REALLY work hard to gain those WATTS, you can eventually catch a Magikarp that knows the flying move, Bounce. Just a little fun fact. LOVE the art. Hope to see Feebass soon.

Magicarp actually learns Tackle now, at level 15 and should, for whatever reason, you dont have him evolved by level 30, has Flail.
Apperently they added Bounce in Platinum on as a Move Tutor ability which is actually a Flying move...

You could add wing-like pectoral fins along it's sides. They basically have them already so it could basically "fly" through the water a bit more majestically.
Just my personal opinion, I'm just not that artistic with sketches >.<

Real nicely drawn jumping magikarp. I like the fact that you gave it teeth. Gyarados has teeth, so it makes sense for magikarp to have them.
All I wonder is why you reduced the eyes as much as you did. Fish can have pretty big eyes, so I'm not so sure why you chose to make magikarp's much smaller than its cartoon form.

because the bigger i drew them the out of proportion they are with the head, fish with large eyes generally have large heads and i wanted it to still look a bit like a carp
