Description Magikarp are seen as one of the most useless pokemon known, and have no use in battle than as a distraction. Unable to learn even the most basic moves it simply splashes around limply.
It was once called to be de-classified as a pokemon but was overruled due to its evolution, Gyarados, one of the most powerful dragon/water type pokemon known.
High level Magikarp are searched for in hopes to evolve them quickly. They are occasionally farmed for this purpose.

Humans occasionally eat them however they are a very gristly fish and are full of bones, this is due to the fact it goes through such a large transformation when it evolves.

Saying all of this Magikarp are extremely resilient and have been found in both salt and fresh water and even some found near underwater volcanos.

Magikarp use hyper beam! What do you mean you don't know hyper beam?! Fine hit'em with another splash attack!

Great Magikarp, the way you draw it I wouldn't be surprised if was also a prized show fish!

Seaking it is not but a Magikarp could still technically batter creatures around it's size into submission. It does know Tackle after all. I take it we have Gyarados to finally look forward to after this .

For Gyarados, perhaps his immunity to Ground moves results from a hollow skeleton?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JoshuaDunlop In reply to rosutu [2010-04-24 21:20:49 +0000 UTC]

still doesnt make sense to fly tho if thats what you mean?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rosutu In reply to JoshuaDunlop [2010-04-24 21:22:06 +0000 UTC]

Flying types do have hollow bones (mostly). Perhaps that's the reason for Gyarados's lumping into that classification.

That, and maybe his ears can flap and flutter.

JoshuaDunlop In reply to rosutu [2010-04-24 21:47:33 +0000 UTC]

yer but its body is deighned for the water not for the air no matter how hollow its bones are it just plain silly to think otherwise

Similar things are said of Pikachu and other Pokemon who can learn Flying-type moves.

JoshuaDunlop In reply to rosutu [2010-04-25 15:49:09 +0000 UTC]

yer just doesnt make sense

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rosutu In reply to JoshuaDunlop [2010-04-25 15:51:15 +0000 UTC]

More or less, it's not clear whether the Flying-type Pokemon, or even any Pokemon that can use Flying-type moves (like the rare Flying Pikachu), absolutely has to possess wings and flapping flight. It may merely have to do with whether said creature is resistant to Ground, weak to Electric, and strong against Plant and Fighting.
