Description Hey! Just wanted to provide a quick insight to a little side project I undertook this weekend. The world of our upcoming comic - the Magic Wilds - is a big old place where half the world is developed, the other half is, well, Wild. I've mapped the whole world, but before I show off the whole thing I want to tidy up a few parts!

This is a mostly finished region - and it's where the comic begins.

----

Brigade is a renewed port, once in decay, now bursting with activity thanks to an influx of “adventurers” and tourists from the modern world.

This city state is comprised of an urban center surrounding a port harbor and farmlands stretching south a few hundred miles, west of the mountains that separate its land from the rest of the continent. The main city is situated on a bay beneath a valley at the lower point of the range, making it a true gateway to the eastern Wilds.

----

Thanks to for their tutorials that helped with the coastline shapes, and to by way of for a single beautiful brush called "Rock Big" that provided a bulk of the texture. Also snuck in a few blending techniques from Tsao!

World building is fun stuff. I'm in the process of re-building mine... I finally came up with a way of doing comics that I like, but it's not really compatible with my old story so now I have to change everything around.

Good luck with your project. I hope you can make progress faster than me... My main character's 10th birthday is coming up, and I haven't even completed one comic about him yet...

Oh boy that's a while! We're getting close to releasing a few anthology comics, then the first few pages of the main thing.

I gotta say, it's all possible thanks to some of the research I did beforehand - Scott McCloud's Making Comics, and discussions by Kieron Gillen on craft (via podcast/blog).

Otherwise I'd have been floundering a lot! The secret I learned though, is that everyone flounders - everyone is constantly re-writing and re-framing and re-drawing to polish and perfect a work... but at some point the deadline comes up and they just have to send it out the door - the best that they could do in that moment in time.
