Wash. He tries so hard. ;n;I'm not sure if I ship these two or not. They clearly go their separate ways after this, though.
I like weird colors. Hurr, lookit me I'm so clever using their secondaries as highlights

Thank you! ^^ Yeah, I'd need more evidence to officially consider them anything. I'm comfortable calling them close friends, but not much else. CT is an interesting choice of character to introduce. And her clairvoyant mistrust of the Director is just impressive. I hope we see more of her before she heads off for the desert.

I have this theory that as being a girl freelancer, Some might judge her by her gender.
Saying stuff like:
"That's what all woman think."
"You're just a girl. What can you do?"
"You're just PMSing or something."
Or other insults that involve her being a woman.
And at one point she couldn't take it anymore so she started to pose a guy and then was just like:
"FUCKERS."

That's a good point. I bet it'd be really tough being a female freelancer, posing as a guy would definitely have its advantages :I

Also, Did you ever notice that whoever Wash can get paired with that atleast makes the most sense either hates his guts or dies.
Mostly dying.

Yeah, and we already know that the Director gave Tex...special treatment...for being so much like the original Allison...I wonder if Carolina/the other high ranking femfreelancers got treated similarly... >.>
Yeah, that poor bastard. His bad luck radiates outwards and kills off everyone he's ever met. Maine, CT, Epsilon, South (although, that was his intention but IT TOTALLY COUNTS) Wonder how that'll effect the Blood Gulch Crew, now that they're allies?
π: 0 β©: 1
umbreonnamedangel In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 16:24:21 +0000 UTC]
Probably not. I think most of the other freelancers, espaiclly the woman, hated Tex because her special privalges were just handed to her most of the time. Caroline probably just purely hates Tex for taking her spot as number one.
I think most of the other Femfreelancers were thrown out of the picture besides Tex, Tex took Carlina's spot so she no longer mattered to the director. South is just a failure. CT began posing as a guy. The other major freelancers were guys. Wash, York, Wyoming, and Maine. Ironically along with Tex they got AIs while Carolina was left to be tested on and probably driven to insanity with TWO of them and CT an South never got an AI.
As long as Wash doesn't fall in love or try to get close with any of them I think they would be fine. Well. I hope so.
Poor Blood Gulch crew.

I can't wait to see how Carolina reacts to Tex. Carolina worked so hard to get to that level then here comes this bitch (who's not even human, by the way) and takes it all away from her. Oh my god I can feel the hatred from here. So awesome.
So, do you think that the Director only included females in the program because he wanted them to become like his dead love Allison, and once a perfect Allison replica (Tex) did show up he threw out all the other failed attempts? I wonder how much of the Directors personal feelings permeated the testing at Freelancer...
Hahaha. Oh dear XD;
π: 0 β©: 1
umbreonnamedangel In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 18:22:54 +0000 UTC]
Espaiclly since we know Tex is there because York has lost his eye and she has an AI BUT she is not on the list chart thing yet. So yeah, Basically she does come out of nowhere and just pushes poor Carolina out of the picture.
I can understand if he looks at some Freelancers as the sons/daughter he never had but doesn't give a shit if they die or not. I just think the Director is to caught up in his past life by the time the project gets anywhere for it to be healthy. He could judge the Femlancers by how they were like Allison, Might be why he favors Carolina for now. Maybe the orginial Allison kicked ass. Maybe in his mind that she was always the best and always number one. (I like to believe that she was an agent of some sorts SOMEWHERE and her death as caused by her failing a mission and he only remembers the mission that caused her death which leads to him only remembering her failure in the mission. Maybe the failure was death.)
π: 0 β©: 1
Jspx In reply to umbreonnamedangel [2011-08-04 18:56:13 +0000 UTC]
Indeed. How do you suppose Tex was "the reason [York] still had one good eye" if she wasn't an obvious part of Freelancer before he lost it? I wonder if we'll actually see how York lost it... I always thought it was Omega's fault...like Omega wanted to kill York and Tex was able to control him just enough to shoot out only York's eye. Or something.
Anyways.
The Director is definitely obsessed with his past and with Allison. Project Freelancer is probably a cover up for whatever his actual motive is. I hope we see that too. I have a lot of hopes for this season lol.
And yeah, probably the fact that Allison dies is the reason why Tex can never complete a mission successfully. That would have to be so hard for a person to go through. Everyone tells you that you're the best agent ever (Carolina de damned) and every time you attempt a mission, some aspect of it fails.
Do you think that the whole "Project Freelancer" is a recreation of whatever group Allison was a part of? And the Director is recreating every scenario she encounter? Wouldn't that be a trip.
So many tragic players this time around :\

umbreonnamedangel In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 19:20:19 +0000 UTC]
I have another theory, Coralina got two AIs and they said after a little while she didn't 'operate' well and it probably just screwed everything up and she probably fucked missions up after that. Well, In the openning Tex could have came along and tooken Carolina's spot while she having her problems.
The Director would probably try to cover up Tex's failures after a while, He could have stated that in an audio log and so the Epsi-Church could piece what he was saying together to conclude that she failed A LOT. The other Freelancers (I don't think) ever stated anything about Tex's failures besides Wash when Epsi-Church told him.
That sounds very logical for the Director, Trying to make it so that she is more like orginial Allison but just ends up failing the scenarios she is given. Also, She basically can't die and dying is her thing. Do you ever think that she died in Project Freelancer? But she never remembered because they could have did something for every body they put her in.

I'm figuring it as pretty much a one-time thing, since the Freelancers aren't exactly in a social setting where it's possible to go to a dinner and a movie. And tragic demise is undeniable, but that's always been the case for the poor Freelancers. XD
Oh crap, now I'm arguing for this. That's a problem. Whatever. I like CT because she's worried and then ends up disguised as a guy for some reason, and that's interesting. And the episode was cute whether there was a pairing there or not. XD He was so nice to her! And so fail at it.

She seems tomboyish now as is, so assuming the part might be relatively easy. And I figure it was to protect her identity after she bailed from the program
Haha, adorable failure: my favorite!

Oh, had she actually left the program? I thought she was still working for them at that point when she was overseeing the ruins. But I'm still new to this fandom, so I'm not sure.
Btw you did a drawing of CT with a shovel once, didn't you? That's hilarious.
I just want to write about her having emotional crises and not wanting to be herself any more, but mostly that's because I, just, angst. And then Wash can be all like NAW IT'S OKAY and she'll be like OKAY and then he'll go insane.
It's great/horrible.

Hahaha, none of us know for sure, but CT was antagonizing Tucker in Recreation, and Tucker called Freelancer Command for assistance in Reconstruction. So if Tucker was working for Freelancer, and she was working against Tucker..then she'd be working against Freelancer?
And I mean, just the way she talks about the program even now. She's clearly not buying whatever pitch the Director gave them, and I bet as soon as she's rejected for implantation, she's gonna go rouge. Maybe.
XD Why, yes I did. Fffffawwww, thank you
Hahaha, awwwwwman, he'd be all supportive-like, saying things like "it's gonna be okay, I promise" then like a month later while he's slowing losing his shit she'd be like "it's gonna be okay...you promised me it was gonna be okay...don't do this to yourself....please!" And that'd be so ;A;
angstfics are good for the soul :]

She's rejected for implantation? Still not succeeding? See how much I know. XD But that's...that's great. Her story is so interesting even sans Wash. Yay, girl characters I care about. That's rare.
Haha, you're welcome! That was just a great interpretation.
D'AWW! D: D: Ohman they'd be saying the exact same things to each other and, parallel dialogue! It, it's perfect. Right now I'm planning on working them into an existing fic but we'll see if they get their own. Ohdear.

Jspx In reply to Nemonus [2011-08-04 15:35:59 +0000 UTC]
She probably wanted the same thing Freelancer did, but was just working for her own gain? So was that the Orb epsichurch was implanted into...or something else? SPECULATION EVERYWHERE. And yeah, the aliens in the rvb universe confuse me so bad; I wonder if we'll see more of them and they'll start making sense x.x
I'm only assuming she gets rejected, just because Wash said "she never got one, remember?" to Meta when they find her corpse
Yeah, this season kindof is attack of the X chromosomes, isn't it? But so far, the women we've met are complex enough to be interesting. Kudos to the dudes at RT! I bet Monty just wanted to animate pretty ladies XD;
Hahaha, I know what you mean. Being one myself I have unfairly high standards for female characters. That usually leads to not liking them.
^^ Don't feel like you need to shoehorn that plot in somewhere, I just thought I'd be a interesting idea I was always more into the hopeless and desperate rather than angsty XD;
I think I have to watch you now.
You better believe it!
π: 0 β©: 1
Nemonus In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 15:50:18 +0000 UTC]
Huh, that makes sense. And requires...SPECULATION! At least I know everybody else was as confused as me. Yeah, I'm just kinda assuming that the honkblarghs are a strange combination of actual Halo Elites and...something unknown...
Ah ha, that's right.
lol I think all of them have been, really, but season 9 is improving on that. I know I tend to be picky with female characters. I thought Tex and Sister were well-drawn characters, it's just that...Tex was the action girl and Sister was the raunchy one, and those are relatively common tropes (although usually not taken to the extreme that Sister is!). And they're very difficult to identify with. In season 9, we get South, CT, and Carolina, who are all a little less trope-y. I'm liking that a lot. Part of the reason I don't feel the need to ship Freelancers is because the girls and guys get along so interestingly without it. But CT met my "unfairly high standards" by being vulnerable, by sortof admitting that you can have problems and still be...a badass.
Haha, I'll see what happens. ^_^
Yay, thanks! There will probably be more RvB/Halo stuff from me even if it's not this specific fic. ^_^
π: 0 β©: 1
Jspx In reply to Nemonus [2011-08-04 17:54:06 +0000 UTC]
I'm not gonna lie, I didn't like Sister. She was funny, but more annoying than anything else.
And Tex. I waiver with Tex. It was kindof a "of course the badass has to be a girl >.>" kind of moment when we first met her, but over the next 5 seasons she became less perfect and more developed. She was greedy and slightly manipulative, but loyal to whatever cause she was assigned to, and she even had a sense of humor. Definitely steps in the right direction.
Then season 8 decided to ruin all that by making her the disappointingly typical "mysterious and troubled warrior," but I've already ranted about that enough on another page
But now we have all these different femfreelancers to work with, and it's nice to see them flexing their character building muscles. South is a bit of a disappointment to me, I thought she was going to descend into hatred-driven bitchdom, rather than start there and just wallow in it for the whole season. But she's still fascinating so I guess I can't complain.
CT is definitely the most interesting femfreelancer so far, I'm intrigued to see what they do with her character, and whether her vulnerability will play a big part in it...
I wonder what character faults Carolina has
π: 0 β©: 1
Nemonus In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 18:07:39 +0000 UTC]
Honestly, I didn't like Sister either. That style of humor just kinda scares me. But she is...basically...female, so I had to bring her up.
Tex definitely started out as a trope, and sorta became one again when we find out she's a "byproduct". But I agree that there are some steps in the right direction going on there, and I'm intrigued by the idea of a character who is a shadow of someone else (and doomed to fail at all times), who still plays the role of the badass. I don't think I'll ever care about Tex enough to write from her POV, like I'd like to do with CT. But her fight scenes are awesome. :3
"it's nice to see them flexing their character building muscles". Indeed. To me, South came off as fundamentally immature. She's wallowing in the same way that a teenager would. But it's, again, interesting that she can still hold her own with that flaw, and she's certainly got a lot of personality. I can't help but think of your comic, with her yelling over York's speech bubble, when I think of her.
I'm just wondering how much screen time each of them are going to get. I mean, CT might never show up again. She basically served in episode 7 to show that some Freelancers are dissatisfied with the Director's methods, and to be the one person per episode whose face gets revealed.
lol poor, poor Florida Carolina.
Thank you for discussing this stuff with me this is so much fun and it's not often that I get to really focus on female characters. :3
π: 0 β©: 1
Jspx In reply to Nemonus [2011-08-04 18:43:54 +0000 UTC]
Tex's "destined to fail" trait is definitely something I want them to elaborate on. It seems like it could explain so much about her and, by extension, what happened to the Original Allison and even the mindset of the Director concerning her.
I wonder if Tex was aware of her status as a byproduct? When does she find out that she isn't human? That'd be something worth seeing. You'd think that she'd notice that every one of her missions fails in some regard. That would have to damage one's self confidence. Does she overcompensate with badassery to hide her self doubt? How long could a person keep that up before she realized that she's not as good as everyone says she's supposed to be?
They probably wont address any of this, but it's still interesting.
That's what I mean by South being fascinating. I don't like the way she acts, but the fact that she does act this way keeps me interested. Still, I had different expectations for the character, so it'll take a while to accept their version XD;
So if she has the mindset of a teenager now, do you think she'll "mature" as the season progresses? By the time she betrays Wash, she seems much more manipulative and subtle than before, whereas now she's loud, brash, and emotional. I wonder if we get to see that transformation....?
As far as screentime goes, yeah, they may never bring her up again. But I doubt that. She played too big a role as the antagonist in Recreation to just completely ignore the rest of her backstory.
But knowing RT, they may do just that. What jerks. XD
I do sortof wish that they'd introduce the core group of characters then STICK WITH THEM, rather than jumping from interaction to interaction. Maybe they're planning on bringing them all together before the end?
HAHAHA. Oh my god, you're right. They do show once face per freelancer episode. That's a fantastic observation XDDD
Hey, it's my pleasure. I love this kind of character evaluation stuff. It's awesome to hear other people's ideas and discuss them C: And yeah, topics usually don't include the female characters, so it's good to really think through and type out my thoughts about them <3
π: 0 β©: 1
Nemonus In reply to Jspx [2011-08-04 20:26:51 +0000 UTC]
I'm not at all sure whether Tex knows what she is. That's one of the things that confused me about Revelation. But I do get the sense that she's confident--she's not trying to cover anything up. She is as good (at fighting) as everybody says she's supposed to be. It's just that she never seemed to gain any ground in the long run, and I think that's where the unchangeable tendency of the byproduct to fail comes in. And then of course she gets trapped inside Epsilon.
I can't blame RT for not going into some of these things, simply because 1.) they have such a short time to tell their story in, and 2.) even hour-long live-action TV shows don't often go into the emotional aspects that are the most intriguing to fans. That's what fan artists and writers are for. The canon writers focus on plot instead. But I think RvB does a lot with its slow scenes, like the one between Wash and CT--and that's something that even some "real" shows could learn from.
It's true, though, that CT was very important in Recreation. I gotta go back and watch that one again--I kinda thought of him/her as a throwaway bad guy the first and only time I've seen it.
I am wondering when we'll find out who the "core" Freelancers are. Like you said, I'd like to have a solid group of people instead of them introducing a lot of new characters. We've seen pretty much all the ones they've mentioned now, right-- except York (although he was in the trailer), and Maine, and I guess Florida.
On the same topic, hopefully if they do tell us more about existing characters we'll get more about South and her progression. She was definitely more calculating when she betrayed Wash. Mind you, that was also after they all got the AI. I bet she had to grow up fast seeing what happened to her friends (and/or rivals).
Haha, I didn't really have pre-conceived notions because the first time I saw RvB was when I marathoned it like two weeks ago. But now this thing with CT...man, it's so weird for me to be trying to write fanfic for something that could potentially change drastically every week! I'm used to writing for movies and games that, when they're over, they're over.
lol yep, I noticed that about the faces little bit ago. It's a good strategy I think. ^_^ I just want to see Wash! They'll probably leave him for later, though, since he's popular.
^_^
