Description Incredibly, this was taken in an urban Miami neighborhood right next to my parked car. There was too much disturbance and the nest ultimately failed...but it was amazing to see these guys up close for a couple days. The same dead palm tree also temporarily hosted Pileated Woodpecker and Red-bellied Woodpecker too!!

awww.....poor babies, having the nest fail. But I suppose urban miami isn't the best nesting place

Oh wow, the details are really brilliant in this. And flickers are just cool--they usually nest in my neighbor's yard every year.

Yes, it is. All woodpeckers use their tail as a third foot...it provides a lot of bracing as they cling to the tree.
