Another fantastic tutorial that I have used to help aid me on my progress of learning a new art style. Everything is very easy to follow and you've done a wonderful job of going step by step in your coloring process. I shall continue to use the techniques shown here for my future pieces and I thank you for making such a fantastic tutorial.

Just got back into drawing after 10 years and just picked up a wacom bamboo tablet which I have never used before, so this will be a HUGE help to me. Thanks Juggs

Nice tutorial! I definitely want to give it a shot, I liked the cel shaded look and I've always done it a certain way, never really got how to use multiply, I just made a ton of different layers one on top of the other and worked with those.

Wow, you make it look...well, achievable
I'll certainly give this method a go, I've got the drawing skills of a chimp with no limbs but can't hurt to give it a go ^^
Thanks for the awesome tutorial

Don't know if this is something I'll ever use or not
(I don't have PS and I don't draw very often) but I'll add it to my tutorials collection in the hopes that someone finds it useful. Looks great. Very easy to understand, and I know nothing about photoshop.

What's this "multiply" thing everyone always mentions? I've had photoshop for years and never used that feature =/

in your 'layers' window, you can select how the layer is going to affect the layers blow it. [link]

Ok, i had to do a google search and then try it myself. it feels like a cheap way to blend colors, which makes me wonder why you're using it in your lines layer =.

Juggertha In reply to Emperorsteele [2009-05-02 03:41:41 +0000 UTC]
Well, I often want my lines to blend a little with the colors below them. I can go through and recolor each line, or I can do it this way. This way saves time.

I like it Jugg. It appears that in the end you have no mid tone left in the purple... is that intentional? Did I miss a step? Lemme know how that works if you get the chance. Nice tutorial, thanks for sharing it with us.

What step do you mean?

BringerOfStorms In reply to Juggertha [2009-05-03 03:16:10 +0000 UTC]
It looks like the only colors left when you are done are the hilight and the shade, while the base color (the original shade of purple) is gone. The end result is cool, I just wondered about the midtone. Thanks

Juggertha In reply to BringerOfStorms [2009-05-03 03:53:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, in this case I only left 2 shades. Sometimes I'll have a mid-tone in there as well... or even a back-light. It all depends on what I'm going for with the piece.

I've been looking more at wanting to do more CoH styled art for all my characters and such from it, and this really helps in coloring and all in that way. Thank you.
By the way, willing to say which PS you use?

Okay, thanks. Was wondering because they would have added and taken away things most likely as they went up in the series. I personally use PS Elements 5.0 is why I was wondering. xD;

Very nicely done and easy to follow, thanks for showing.
I wish I could be as structured. I usually don't complete Step 1 and 2 before starting on 3. Then step 3 is a mix of 4-6 also at the same time. By step 7 and 8 I'm tired of the picture so I usually skip them

not enough time to get bored
