a tutorial for the automail made for ~bloodyjackfaber 's Ed Elric cosplay
if anything isn't explained in the tutorial [and I tried to cover EVERYTHING... x_x ], feel free to ask any questions. :]
how many bottles of fabric paint did you use?
I believe about 4 silver, 2 black [of the 2-oz size].
download for higher resolution.
if you make automail using this tutorial, please post a link to your finished result! I'd love to see what you made.
1/31/10 EDIT: a DD?! O__O
well, THAT was completely unexpected. . . . but I'm really glad you guys are finding this tutorial helpful! ^^
thanks to all of you~~and especially to `Hanratty-Stock & ^Nyiana-Sama !!
Anime Detour 2011 edit: BJ was wearing her automail glove [the same one featured in this tutorial] around Detour this year, and a random passerby said to their friend--"look! it's like the tutorial online!" xD
Amusing as this was, it was a little weird to have someone recognize our automail-glove design from a dA post I made now-years ago. o_o;;

I'll have to show this to my friend who is going to the Nagu-con as Edward. hope we can pull this off. she's got everything but the automail. she doesn't even need a wig or contacts because she is pretty much a natural Ed.
awesome job by the way.

If you don't mind me asking... DO you know of any stores where I could get an elbow length white glove?

I'm using this for the leg, too (not the pattern, just the idea and technique). started on it today. Cloth is a bitch to pain DDDx

if you're using cloth automail for the leg, I'm not sure how far you've already gotten into your project, but I'd recommend getting toe socks to sew onto your automail leg, so you can have the foot with the leg
just remember to wear shoes when you don't have a photoshoot or something, so you don't get the bottom of your automail all dirty >.>;

it took me about ~16 hours, which from my perspective isn't all that long it's lasted for years thus far, so I think the time investment is worth it

My gloves ust arrived this very moment.. ^^" I do have one question before I begin though ... The elastic .. is it sewed on the tanktop underneath the white shirt? or is it sewed on the back and the front of the white shirt ... like .. the elastic is underneath the armpit, from front till back? If you get my idea.. ^^"

aaah, sorry to get back to you so late! O-O;; ;__;
we sewed the elastic to the white shirt. it's to help keep the white shirt on {since it's had an arm/shoulder cut off}
