As I mentioned previously Yukiko had discretely taken the scroll (earth) from Tiago without him noticing. Yes the moment she is celebrating about it, is when he already left them, I don’t know if it is clear enough from my screenshots so… Here I give context!
It turns out Tiago eventually noticed after cause he did make it to the tower with the two needed scrolls. Yukiko also made it to the tower, empty handed, and Kaito was escorted to the tower with the staff when they got informed that Tiago made it there so… the question of team 18’s qualification was pending. They eventually decided that in this case only Tiago and Yukiko qualified, as only them made it to the tower within the exam’s time frame. Which Kaito was relieved, not wanting to keep on with the exam.

When Yukiko blamed him for abandoning her and Kaito. Tiago responded saying he assumed she’d be smart enough to give up and go to the forest’s gateway like Kaito did. « But it would seem that brains is not your strong suit either. » And then he proceeded to make her feel bad for stealing the scroll, saying she did herself not really act with team spirit. Which worked, she did feel bad and apologized. Of course he made sure to confront her in public to make her look bad, as he always did.

It may look like these two were in bad terms, but actually that was not out of the ordinary in their dynamic. Their relationship always was toxic and Tiago being a textbook narcissist he would always get away with his actions, being adored by everyone. Including Yukiko, who loved him unconditionally as her brother at heart. Despite their rocky past, the jealousy deeply rooted in their relationship, they were both depending on each other. He would always come back to her for support and love, and she would always come back for him for support and to feel safe.
