Oof. Apollo[n], Greek god of light, prophecy and healing... dodger of being drawn by me.I've been chasing Apollo for a couple of years, filling sketchbook pages with vague scribbles and details of individual features, and made a couple of disastrous attempts at painting him.
I've even been hanging around the laurel tree (a tree declared sacred to Apollo) in our garden, hoping inspiration would strike
I didn't quite feel the other sketch I did was close enough to how I imagine him to look, but eventually I came to this one, which is much more like the image I had in mind.
14x19 inches. Pastels, watercolour, some white ink, and collage for texture.

Beautiful! I love the wisdom behind the eyes and the tension, as if any second he is going to open his mouth and say something profound, or silly. He hass a bit of a smirk behind thhose eyes as well.

amazing- I can't find a single flaw.
I love his eyes... mysterious and wise, but also with a young *mistevious look to them. (or at least to me... lol, paintings speak to me. 
Wonder what he has been up to besides posing for pictures...

It's a great techinque to use and can be stunning when used properly like this. Just magnificent is all I can say.

what I could say... that's definitely Apollo of our times!
let me explain - you didn't use any light sunny tones which would suit a god of the light and yet! your work is so bright and clear
with the laurel's leaves nearly hidden and still visible he could live in our times with no one noticing that a god is near
but his eyes are saying everything

I enjoy them too. There is something immensely satisfying about creating these.
I tend to agree as far as the spontaneity thing goes... I judge my general progress more by my sketches, rather than time intensive paintings and the like.

I know that feeling--sometimes I make a mistake or accident and I just roll with it, and even though the picture changes durastically, it turns out looking better than planned.
You must have had a LOT of "purely happy accidents" on this one then!
