Rampage

Seattle has been consumed by volcanic activity. Flaming mountains erupting from the earth to drown the land in molten magma. Special GDF divisions had been sent to evacuate the city as the catastrophe struck. Now Seattle was little more than a molten hellscape, with its only occupants being the alien crystals. Yet this city would not be as lifeless as it seems, for a horror beyond belief was surfacing from the sea, roaring into the heavens.

Thanatos the Destoroyah.

It had taken him some time to reconstitute himself after his escape from Monster Island. But once he did, he began to sense immeasurable power was surrounding the planet. The air was thick with this power, and he had to have it to see what sort of power was at work. He made his way to Seattle to begin his campaign of devastation and conquest. Yet he was surprised to see the city not only riddled with volcanoes: but the crystals were the cause of it. It made him wonder if his master was responsible for this.

Only one way to find out.

Reaching towards a cluster of crystals, Thanatos ripped one out of its foundation, and crushed it in his hand. The resulting power boost was unlike anything he had ever experienced. It was like the G-Cell enhancements he received, but on a grander scale. He then focused his mind on trying to connect a rapport with the crystals, and commune with the one responsible for the crystals. His wish came true when he ‘stood’ before his master, Lord Astaroth. Seeing his lord, alive and well, caused him to kneel in admiration. “My lord.” he said in awe, and relief.”

“Ah, Thanatos, my old friend.” Astaroth said from his throne. “It does me well to see my most faithful huntsman still lives.”

“My lord, I remain yours to command.” Thanatos said. “I was a prisoner of ice, and snow until these crystals of your creation awakened me. I waited until I could reconstitute into my true self, and then seek out answers. If I had a heart, then seeing you alive would bring warm feelings to it.”

“You flatter me, Thanatos.” Astaroth said. “And impress me. I had not thought any being short of myself, and Krystalak capable of communing through my crystals. Yet, here you are now.”

“Perhaps through the crystal horn you bestowed on me long ago?”

“Perhaps.” Astaroth hummed. “It does not matter now. All that matters is acquiring the Celestial Seven, and exacting my revenge.”

“Revenge, master?”

“On all who dared to cross me. And you are key to this plan coming to fruition. This is my command: you are to absorb the power of the crystals infesting Earth, and find other creatures of ferocious, and powerful stature to wreak havoc on the world. These “mutants” will be the army by which we will march across this world, and drown it in the chaos that is to consume it. And when the Celestial Seven are mine, the universe shall know the same fate.”

“As you command, Lord Astaroth.” Thanatos bowed again.

And just like that, it was over. Thanatos was back in the sweltering, burning landscape that was Seattle. While others would question if that experience was reality, Thanatos knew better than to question. He simply did as he was told, and began attacking the crystals one, after another. WIth each crystal shattered, he could feel his strength growing. It was unbelievable. And it drove him to destroy the city, as well. Or at least what was left of it. This was the moment when a familiar face showed itself in the form of Battra, firing prism beams at the demonic kaiju non-stop. “Why do you attack me?” Thanatos questioned. “We were allies once, 20 years ago.”

“Once.” Battra said. “But now I seek the same thing you do: the power crystals, and the energy they hold.” The black moth lunged for several crystals, and was also boosted by their power. This would not stand with Thanatos for an instant. “If you are not at my side, then you are against me!” He fired his OD Ray at Battra, and made the creature falter for a moment. But he did roar in challenge, and rammed directly into Thanatos. Thanatos staggered backwards from the blow, but he would not surrender. Grabbing the black moth, he bit into his wing, and then hurled him into a nearby building before blasting him again. Even so, Battra would not relent. He fired back with his Prism Beams, and added yellow lightning to his attack. This actually seemed to have an effect on the demon, enough to make him shriek in pain.

But it also proved a mistake as Thanatos roared in anger soon after. He then took to the air, and tackled Battra clear through the building, and they began grappling in the sky. That is, until rainbow beams struck them both, and caused them to fall to the ground. When they looked around, they saw Mothra Leo had arrived. “Stand down. I will not allow either of you to bring more harm than has already been wrought.”

Thanatos scoffed. “Pathetic worm! You truly believe you can stand against both our might alone?”

Battra raised a brow at that statement. “What is this talk of “both our might”?''

“It is precisely what I mean, Battra.” He then smiled wickedly. “How does the prospect of overpowering this meddling insect together sound?” Battra thought for a few moments, before he said, “Ordinarily, I would dismiss the notion as the Mothra belongs to me...but perhaps it would be more amusing to tear him apart with someone other than myself.”

“Then consider this a partnership of hatred.” Thanatos said, before turning his attention to the now worried, guardian moth. Perhaps he could hold his own against one of these abominations. But against two of them? His chances were looking quite grim. Even more so as both of them fired their energy weapons upon him, narrowly missing him as he dodged their attack. He then retaliated with beams fired from the gems on his forehead, as well as his antennae beams. The attacks did hurt Thanatos, but only so much due to his extreme durability. Battra decided to step in, and engaged Mothra in an aerial shoot-out, with him on Leo’s tail. While dodging, he swept over Thanatos, and made lasers rain down on him. Leo knew Thanatos was the strongest among the two, so his best chance was to wear him down.

But the demonic kaiju had other plans in mind, and quickly grabbed Leo in the abdomen. Battra had a clear shot to shoot Leo in the back, making him cry out in pain. He then found himself tossed through the air, and then bombarder by Thanatos’ OD Ray, added by Battra’s Prism Beam attack, which seemed to cause Leo to explode from the destructive energies which struck him. But the young moth was made of stronger stuff, and he survived. Now, however, he was badly injured from the attack. Thus, he had no choice but to call a retreat, or risk being destroyed here, and now.

“Wretched coward!” Shouted Battra.

“Patience, my friend.” Thanatos calmly said. “There will be other chances. I can promise you that.”

Battra hummed. “I suppose so. But where does this leave us? Do we fight again, or extend our alliance?” At this, Thanatos smirked. “I say the latter works fine. But we must find other creatures like us, first. Creatures of such ferocity, and strength that even the Vortaak would quake at the mention of our name, as “The Mutants”.”

“Mutants?” Battra questioned. “An odd choice for a name, but I suppose one that works well enough. Though I thought the Vortaak were allies.” At this, Thanatos shook his head. “No. Not since the great “Emperor” discarded my master for his one failure. But Astaroth is coming back, and only we hold the power to help him escape his imprisonment. We just need to gather more energy from the crystals, and kaiju - or robots - that are afflicted by “The Celestial Seven” as he called them.”

“And how do you propose we do this?” Battra asked

“By finding more mutants, and coercing them to join us, that’s how.” Thanatos said simply. “We simply need to search for them...and I have the feeling we will know them when we see them.”

“Hm. I understand.” Battra nodded, then prepared to take off. “Then let’s hope our endeavor goes well.” Thanatos nodded, and opened his wings for flight. The two then went off to find their Mutant allies. Unaware that they were being observed. Bagan pressed his fingers together as he said, “So, it is as I predicted: the monsters of this planet...and even of alien origin, draw strength from the Crystal Quintessence. And now, my old apprentice seeks their power for himself.”

“At least now we know who sabotaged our invasion.” Kaiser said. “But now, it is a race to claim more power than the enemy. And the one called Godzilla is determined to destroy the crystals at any cost.”

“Let him expend his energies on a fruitless crusade.” Bagan dismissed. “Even he cannot prevent so many monsters from claiming such power. That is why I have commanded Karkaro to begin sending his Trilopods to harvest the crystal energy.”

“Excellently well thought out, my lord.” Kaiser bowed. “It most certainly saves us the trouble of having to harvest more crystals, and risk a fight.”

“But Kaiser...would that be so bad when the promise of power is firmly within our grasp?” Bagan asked.

“My lord?”

“I have a task for you...my apprentice, in the city called “New York”.

The city of seattle had suffered a great deal from the battle of the kaiju. Yet even so, compared to the crystal’s destructive effect on the city, that scap of a fight was nothing. Still, noone had any idea that such a clash could awaken something. Something birthed from the alien crystals as they touched the molten mantle of the Earth, and began to mutate into a new, and terrible form of life. Out of the largest Volcano, a hulking figure of rock and lava roared into the heavens, like a demon from hell. The beast was practically newborn, but it was dangerous due to its violent, and simplistic nature. Its only desire was to harvest the power surge crystals for itself - and crush all in its way.

This would be how the world was introduced...to Obsidious.
