Description Given the passing of time and finally having GOOD shots of the new Godzilla, it was time to update one of my favorite old pics.  That, and in the interest of fairness give Zilla a chance for some snarky comebacks   It's all for fun, folks, please don't freak out and start a flame war.

It was the best guys like me could ask for back in 1998 when the Toho series of films had stopped at Destroyah and we were still hungry for more kaiju-on-kaiju action, and I appreciated everything about it that the 1998 film lacked, especially the nice nods like the Mechani-Kong episode with the female pilot named "Ifukube".  It was leaps and bounds more satisfying as a life long Godzilla fan than GINO had been, so I fell in love with it and am SO glad they finally released it this year on complete DVD sets.

Yeah, I just wish that they didn't have to kill off komdodithrax and the egg, Zilla's girlfriend surrogate child. And speaking of that  episode, "poor nick"....POOOR NIIICK?!?! WHAT ABOUT POOR ZILLA HE WAS HE ONE WHO LOST HIS ONLY CHANCE OF HAPPINESS!!! How insensitive can they get?! P.s. I would also love it if they made a new Godzilla series with all the TOHO MONSTERS, including the Zilla series.

20014 GODZILLA!
the cartoon was okay but meh. it was quite scary at times.

Nice! Though some fans think of Zilla as a remake of the Rhedosaurus from The Beast of 20000 Fathoms, I see his film as it's own movie that I don't mind and the cartoon that followed was true to Godzilla's character. Heck, if I ever got to meet Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, I'd asked if there was anything else they'd done with the cartoon series if it continued.

All in all, I care about Zilla as much as I do Godzilla himself.

Good point about the Beast of 20000 Fathoms. Did you know that the movie was where the inspiration of the original Godzilla came from?

Raptorcloak In reply to ChristinYou [2014-07-18 02:40:22 +0000 UTC]

I belive it was both the Beast from 20000 Fathoms and King Kong. But here's one thing that puzzles me to no end: how the G-Fans who hate Zilla compare to the Rhedosaurus.

While it's not hard to see the resemblance their films have, I'd would think people who hate comparing him to Godzilla would be against comparing him to his inspiration but that doesn't appear to be the case.

ChristinYou In reply to Raptorcloak [2014-07-19 00:52:17 +0000 UTC]

Doh! How could I forget King Kong! And I call myself a Ray Harryhausen fan! Shame on me.
I don't know why the hate on Zilla (I still call him the American Godzilla) but I guess it is a "popular thing" to do.

Raptorcloak In reply to ChristinYou [2014-07-19 01:04:31 +0000 UTC]

Don't worry, it happens to anyone. As for the Zilla hatred, let's just say fans of any fictional don't like changes that stray too far from the original source.

But....but... what about creative thinking? Or are too many people following "Don't Hug me I'm scared" video?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Raptorcloak In reply to ChristinYou [2014-07-20 03:18:18 +0000 UTC]

Good point on creative thinking but some people are too used to what they already know about characters to see changes that take them from what they are known for.

Thanks to Roland E, he was ruined the movie! Especially with that King-Kong slowly dying away heartbeats. That was what gave the final blow that movie.... Still way better than the 2014 one...

ChristinYou In reply to SkywalkerWilliam [2015-11-30 06:35:18 +0000 UTC]

I actually like the 2014 version. Very dark in some areas but the ending battle... was EPIC! Especially the "kiss of death". I hated the dying heartbeats (( Thankfully his son was like "missiles? Please. I'm gonna roast you now."

If it helps, a lot of my friends (age range early 20s to early 30s) know of it pretty well and like it. In fact, they like the 1998 version as well (that and they don't complain about a lot of things)

And you'll never hear me berate you for it, I can't stand fanboys that do.  It's a chip on the shoulder that has no need to get hung out over, it's just a sci fi monster movie for pity's sake.  It may be a lousy GODZILLA movie, but it's still an enjoyable flick with fun action and still pretty decent special effects after 16 years.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AbsoluteIrishLuck In reply to KaijuKid [2014-05-27 05:44:09 +0000 UTC]

I saw it as a breath of fresh air. It was a slightly more realistic rendition of Godzilla. No nuclear power house, just a mutated Iguana looking to lay it's eggs. True my nostalgic inner child still prefers the original movies as well as the most recent movie but i still loved 'Zilla. People are too busy complaining about what 1998 Godzilla wasn't instead of what it was.

Tojunior In reply to AbsoluteIrishLuck [2014-06-18 18:23:16 +0000 UTC]

It was a marine Iguana and Marine Iguanas for one thing are not in French Polynesia! The larger females lay up to 5 eggs, they are not asexual and they defend with their tale not their mouth

It was also mutated. So much of that could have been changed.

Yeah, like how radiation can effect the genetic structure of organisms, and how mutated genes can cause humans to be born with both male and female genitalia.

ComicaPaloozaStudios In reply to AbsoluteIrishLuck [2014-05-30 18:37:14 +0000 UTC]

True, and I completely agree with you. A more realistic 'Zilla was a really interesting plot, and the acting in it was... ok, I guess. It wasn't bad, to say the least.
However, this was still a Godzilla movie, so unfortunately no one actually cared that there was some depth, because all they wanted was Godzilla. They got him, alright, but not the way they wanted him.

This may help in your plight, as it shows the literal counterargument: tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php…

AbsoluteIrishLuck In reply to ComicaPaloozaStudios [2014-05-30 19:16:58 +0000 UTC]

Exactly, people rage against it because they refuse to understand it. Taking at face value(for lack of a better word) the only argument you get most of the time is; "It's stupid, that wasn't Godzilla." No matter how you try to explain they refuse to even listen. I don't care if people don't like movies I loved (hell I hated The Dark Knight) my problem is how they bitch and moan without listening to reason.

Oh well, that's the generation we live in.

rakaru In reply to AbsoluteIrishLuck [2014-06-02 07:21:10 +0000 UTC]

I agree, its an alright movie. But its not what it claimed to be.

It's like, you go in to see a pokemon movie, and what you get instead is a movie of some kid going out and collecting actual animals (dogs, cats, lizards, etc; ), that could be a great movie but for fucks sake its no pokemon. That's where the fanboys are coming from, and I completely understand it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AbsoluteIrishLuck In reply to rakaru [2014-06-02 18:04:48 +0000 UTC]

That's all Pokemon is, really. In the Pokemon universe, the Pokemon are just animals(with real life animal counter parts). Growlith is a dog, Meowth is a cat, Charmander is a lizard. Sure they breath fire, electricity, and water, but really they are just animals.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rakaru In reply to AbsoluteIrishLuck [2014-06-02 18:10:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I know, that's why I used that example. All Godzilla is is a giant reptile really, and Zilla filled that role alright, but he wasn't Godzilla, just like my American Bulldog isn't Growlith.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AbsoluteIrishLuck In reply to rakaru [2014-06-02 18:20:01 +0000 UTC]

Still, it's no excuse for fanboys to freak out about it.
