Description
This was an early design idea for Godzilla: Final Wars by Yasushi Nirasawa that didn't make the film of course but offered a strange and unique possibility of what we might have seen in the film. You can't see it from this angle but the central row on his back isn't plates but a spiky, exposed row of spinal column breaking out of his back. It's a crazy look and one that I wouldn't mind putting into a comic someday if I ever get the chance or have a good story excuse for it.Commissions open: kaijukid.deviantart.com/journa…

Looking at that bit in the middle, it kind of makes me think what Biollante would eventually look like in her Godzilla DNA became much more dominant to the point where her plant DNA was almost completely superseded.

OMG, when I Saw the concept art, it was kinda weird, but seeing some model Kits, I have another opinion.

I honestly whish that To go would allow someone to make a good Godzilla with canned monsters and the concepts of each monsters put into the game, one can only dream.

Pretty cool drawing. Not really a fan of the design by Nirasawa though. Just doesn't feel like Godzilla. At least Shin still had that quality with it. This feels like something more akin to the Godzilla In Hell comic from years back.
Still, it's great art as always though man

Thanks man, and yeah I hear ya it comes off a little like some radical edgy concept of what would make the concept "cool", but I always love seeing the whacked out alternative designs. I definitely would like to make it some manner of evil doppleganger in a comic someday in that far off future when I'm not splitting my time between superhero girls and warring mammal and lizard people.

Ehh ... I admit, this design looks interesting, but I feel it is on the line between being unorthodox and being quite original.

It's out there to be sure, if I ever used it for my own comic work I'd likely make it some kind of evil clone ala Spacegodzilla, this design would make for a good enemy.

Did you use it in your own comic book?
I think a hybrid between one of the Heisei designs with the MireGoji or the KiryuGoji would be a pretty perfect or clean design for the King of the Monsters in its own right (the Heisei incarnation is basically already the mascot of the franchise), although the Marvel design Godzilla looks rough, intimidating or original without making fun of the original character.

Love it! I like to call this design EdgeLordGoji, and I think the Elfen Lied theme would suit him somehow.

Ha, I like that. Some fans don't like Godzillas overly covered in spikes for being too edgy but it always depends on the overall design scheme. This to me is pretty well balanced, certainly no weirder or worse than Super Godzilla for being a little far out.

At the very least, I like the face design better than the FinalGoji one, the chest design is neat too. Its a very grim and wild design, but I can still recognize it as Godzilla. Maybe tweak the dorsal spines a bit.

Good job! I think I remember seeing concept art for this when Final Wars first came out, it kindof reminds me of Shin Godzilla for some reason (possibly because of the description of bones sticking out).

It's a good comparison actually, the designs are both pretty radical in their own ways and give Goji a much meaner overall look.

Yes it does but I think the reason they chose not to do it is because they wanted Godzilla to look more heroic in Final Wars, and the time wasn't right for a design like that until Shin Godzilla.

I do admire that version of Godzilla. It's like it's been irradiated with cosmic energy!

stick some spiky blonde hair on that boy and we have some manner of Super Seiyan kaiju on our hands.

I would have preferred this design for Final Wars over the one we got, or at least a variant of it. I never liked the head for the Final Wars Suit, especially that dinky jaw they gave it.

In all fairness, I considered the FW design "Catzilla" mainly because it's just that: Catlike.
In looking at that design they tried giving the Heisei era suit that showa approach, considering that Final wars was a tribute to the Showa era of Godzilla
(And Sandlot's EDF Series of games. Seriously EARTH DEFENSE FORCE VS ALIEN INVASION?! All it needs are giant bugs!)

A very Gamera-esque design, almost if Kadokawa produced their own version of Godzilla instead of Toho. The tiny spike ending the tail is always a feature I love to see in kaiju, a detail I hadn't noticed when I saw the concept art years ago. Like usual, fantastic work!

It's a good point on the Kadokawa feel of it, a lot edgier and more "dangerous" feeling than some Toho efforts, I'm not a fan of over-spikyness but in some cases it does look pretty effective. Thanks as always.

Fer sure, I'd like to even see this design pop up as some new version of evil clone.
