Description
I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon, since everyone ELSE seems to be doing itThe early reports of the new Godzilla design described it as "fat." A crude description at best, but when I saw the blurry photograph at the top-right there, I imagined that the design direction wasn't so much corpulent as it was "thick."
"Monstrously thick" were the words that came to mind. A mountain of a creature, unbelievably powerful and undeniably unstoppable. I approached this hypothetical design in a similar fashion to a paleontologist's anatomical reconstructions - using the little information I had, not to mention the previous works of as inspiration, this is what I'm anticipating to be lurking behind all that blurr and smoke.

It does scare the hell out of me. I'm not a pessimist, and I am excited for this film, but to say that I'm not a bit concerned with certain choices Legendary has made concerning current writers and people involved would be lying.
I have hopes, just not high ones, I'd rather have a realistic vision of what this movie is probably going to be instead of floating around like a lot of fans are, thinking its going to be everything they ever wanted simply because Godzilla is going to be CG in it.

Understandable. Honestly, my bar for sci-fi cinema is more/less fixed at 'middle,' and has been since I hit up G '98 in theaters...twice. If Legendary!Goji is a step or three up from that, more power to the crew & fanbase; if not...hell, two decades and some markedly lukewarm offerings haven't killed Godzilla for me, so another American-produced debacle sure wont.

Can't argue with that.
But as with Final Wars and Super Hero Taisen, I really hate to see debauched potential. That would be my only anxieties.

...It still pisses me off that I have yet to see this friggin trailer.
But - it does seem proper that Godzilla's size would be bulky - as the crude 'fat' term was used. Zilla was far too thin and a bit gangly - perfect for swift movements, but not fit for the Brawling Reputation of the King of the Monsters.

(sighs as he remembers it)

Well Zilla Jr. was a unique case. He seemed to be smarter and more courageous than his father. I feel like Zilla Jr. was a mutation in a mutation. He was born different from his 200+ siblings - something unique; a mutation. It would explain his heightened intelligence, and ability to use an Atomic Heat Beam.
He also showed to be a lot stronger as well. He had a bit of a proper balance to be a fighter. He used his speed to outmaneuver his more typically heavier opponents.

Artwork, as always, is fantastic. I also think this design is pretty good. Massive and thick, but still looks like he can haul ass and charge at a enemy. While I doubt the final version of the reboot's design would truly look like this, it is indeed a very well thought out design for the King of the Monsters.

Astoundingly, I can't recall a single prior Alternate!Goji rendition which applied those nifty tail-segments to Big G's neck as well. Combined with the unusually well-integrated secondary spikes (i.e. all that bric-a-brac on the upper arms/legs & tail) & damn near spot-on dorsals, it lends this guy a fair share of rugged appeal.
On the slightly less positive side...call me a heretic, but those hypertrophic ankles, short arms & stubby skull seem a skosh too Heisei-derived. Imposing looks are well & good, but a bit of boxing reach & flexibility-to say nothing of slightly chompier jaws-would go a long way toward spicing up whatever claw-to-claw combat Legendary!Goji sees. Royalty does not live on nuke-zapping every foe as the first, last & only option.
Anyhow: quality speculation, and here's hoping the film itself approaches this standard.

I'll be honest: I always felt Toho made his bottom jaw too thin, and of course Zilla's bottom jaw was WAY too thick. So it's nice to see a more substantial jaw without him being "Goon-zilla".
