Description I figured I'd jump on the bandwagon, since everyone ELSE seems to be doing it Not to mention it makes a nice New Years treat!

The early reports of the new Godzilla design described it as "fat." A crude description at best, but when I saw the blurry photograph at the top-right there, I imagined that the design direction wasn't so much corpulent as it was "thick."

"Monstrously thick" were the words that came to mind. A mountain of a creature, unbelievably powerful and undeniably unstoppable. I approached this hypothetical design in a similar fashion to a paleontologist's anatomical reconstructions - using the little information I had, not to mention the previous works of as inspiration, this is what I'm anticipating to be lurking behind all that blurr and smoke.

The Zilla from the Cartoon deserves a re-emergence, just with out the human control. That zilla was cool fast agile and he was unaffraid of pretty much everything. However Godzilla is the King, Zilla's defeat in 20 seconds proved that.

They still should've made it longer than a few seconds.

Aye a good half hour battle, Zilla would have been tossed about certaintly, but it till could have been an interesting battle. But Godzilla should have gotten a hold of him, a show of power to prove his dominance.

Very nice, but I think the Godzilla neo's Godzilla has a better design with better legs.
This design looks better:

Yeah something about it looking like a rat and too slim. I didn't really see any problem. Least it wasn't slow as snails like heisi

in my opinion,FW goji looks figter-like for me with no bulky body
but i like goji 2000 too, especially the atari design, not looking too bulky & not too slim

So how do you like what Matt has here. I don't really think of it as Fat, We're to believe Heisi Godzilla wasn't fat(Though I hate the way the fan base glorifies it)

Dunno about 'a lot,' but personally I had no problem with Final-Goji being a bit leaner & meaner than the Heisei or Millennium suits. Then again, who knows how much classical suitmation will figure into Legendary's entry anyway? They might go for motion-capture ala Jackson's King Kong.

Between you and me how did you like the story and monster designs of Final Wars?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

geekspace In reply to Gojira012 [2013-01-04 04:52:11 +0000 UTC]

Well, the story could've used a bit more actual kaiju combat between swathes of Matrix-alien scenery chewing. Heck, the human/mutant drama even bites huge chunks outta the final fight.

Design-wise...
Mothra/Kumonga/Ebirah/Manda/Hedorah- not bad at all, even if some barely had a minute of screen time.

Minya/Zilla- passable. Wouldn't have minded if the tuna lizard had survived a bit longer, but that's just not how Final-Goji rolls.

Rodan- wings could've been a skosh larger, but otherwise OK.

Seesar- found his acrobatics amusing enough to wish Final-Goji hadn't decked him so effortlessly.

Anguirus- not too keen on the facial makeover he received, but that ball-o-spiky doom trick was nifty. Again, could've lasted a bit longer.

Gigan- snazzy new weapons & dark color scheme, though his teeth seemed a bit oversized. Yet again, PWNZORED a bit too abruptly-twice.

MX- interesting spin on vaguely humanoid kaiju design; only foe who seems to give Goji a decent working-over. Fun fisticuffs interrupted by human plot, followed by deus ex mutation.

Keizer Ghidorah- aside from the sauropod build & sheer bulk, not the classiest update Ghido's ever experienced. Stumpy wings, paper-mache hide, abuses beamy arsenal like Spacegodzilla on PCP. Curbstomps Our Hero only to be plot-device thrashed & vaporized in turn. Kinda wish he'd stuck to the previous form.

In short, FW had its strong & weak points, but the energetic kaiju-combat (well, what moments of it there were) definitely didn't hurt.

It's an excellent design, featuring the mountain a living kaiju would be, but keeping the classic godzilla design. Two thumbs up here.

The tail on this guy is great, and that face, if we could be so lucky to have him have that much mammalian old school goodness in the face.

I get a sinking suspicion that Godzilla is going to be bulky and fat in this new movie as some way to counter balance the skinniness of Zilla, and Hollywood has a bad habit of doing the opposite of something if the first itteration isn't as successful as the last.

After parsing through all the "MAKE IT BIG BAD 90's STYLE" comments here & elsewhere, I'm just about on board with ya. At least motion capture & the like might mitigate the kinetic limitations of a Heisei/Millennium-type design.

Anyhow, a happy pending 2013 to ya.

AkagiGryphon In reply to geekspace [2013-01-04 08:55:09 +0000 UTC]

I have no quarms with Godzilla being skinny, or bulky, or fat, or muscular, I just know how Hollywood works. They figured the first movie didn't do as well as they like, avoid doing anything that movie did. That is just how their minds work.

So I think they could purposely over compensate and force him into a stage of chunkiness.

geekspace In reply to AkagiGryphon [2013-01-04 09:16:15 +0000 UTC]

Fair supposition, that. All told, I'd just like to see some demonstration of combat-related reflexes beyond 'rear, roar, power up, lazor'. But I've likely belabored that chestnut enough.

...hmm. You really think Legendary's liable to opt for the Blair Witch/Cloverfield School of Minimal Monster Exposure?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AkagiGryphon In reply to geekspace [2013-01-04 23:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't think its out of the realm of possibilities. I'm cautiously optimistic, Edwards himself says the movie is going to be an 'actioner' which sounds good in theory, but you could also say Micheal Bay's Transformers was an actioner... ya know, action consisting of 20 somethings running from explosions, occasionally interrupted by ten second robot fights.

So you can understand where my anxiety comes from.
