Description

Connections:
Two powerful RPG heroes from games released around the same time.
They use unique swords and elemental magic to fight.
Both of them lost their parents at a young age.
They used to be part of a military organization (the Defence Force and Guardian Corps) before setting off on a journey after their homes are attacked. They swear revenge on the invaders and awaken a laden power.
They have a strong bond with a girl they've known since childhood (Fiora and Serah). This girl dies, but later comes back to life.
Both of them were chosen by gods (Shulk as wielder of the Monado and Zanza's vessel. Lightning as a L'Cie, Etro's knight and the savior).
Their stories involve them defying fate to save their worlds from devastation.
They defeated the person responsible for the invasion of their homes, but forgave them due to the circumstances leading up to the invasion.
After that, the god they saw as an ally turned out to be a manipulative enemy. They slay this God at the end of their stories. Shulk/Lightning then become gods, and create a new world without any gods.
Both of them have precognitive abilities (Shulk's visions and Lightning's Eyes of Etro)
Both appear in crossover fighting games (Smash Bros. and Dissidia).
They appear as supporting characters in the sequels to their games (XC2 DLC & FFXII-2), and are briefly playable.
The first Xeno series game was originally a plot for Final Fantasy VII that was allowed to become its own game.
