So I always got asked how I made my watermark... I usually use Photoshop's text tool, but mine is in Italian (and I'm too lazy to translate) and not everyone has PS.This way, you can make a watermark with every program that lets you use layers.
Remember that protecting your artwork is important! Lazy thieves will avoid watermarked art and stupid thieves will post the art with the watermark on (and people will come find you to tell you about it).

When i add my watermark it got white background but i saved as png!

It's an issue with the older versions of SAI, I have it as well. I simply save with Photoshop.
GIMP is a free program that still accepts layers that you can download for that purpose.

since this used Sai, do you know how to get Sai for free?

I got mine from my uncle (who paid for it), but I think that a cracked version of it must surely be available somewhere on internet.

I know I already commented on this, but I just wanted to thank you for showing me how to do this

That's what I do with PS text tool, write the name, make a layers out of it, then select it, make the selection bigger, colour it dar and put it under the white text. But I thought that not many programs outside PS have a text option (and PS does cost a bit), but you can write your name yourself with a brush tool, so as long as the program you're using supports layers, then you can use this tutorial for any program you want.

i cant seem to get the black to neatly border the white like you've done here. how did you do it?

I just picked the Brush tool again, made it bigger and then wrote my name again.
Alternatively you can select the background, choose the Select>Inverse option and then the Select>Expand selection by 1 pixel option as many times as you want and then colour inside the lines.

what size canvas do you use for your art? ive just been worried im using too big or too small canvases. i usually have mine at 1000x1000. is that too small?

A bigger canvas lets you work on the detail with little care to how precise you are, because you're going to downsize everything either way, so I usually lineart with a 5000x5000 at 72dpi and then downsize it to 3000x3000 to colour (but just because I can't find a way to make SAI's brushes bigger). This working file is then saved as a .png for the final version at a 700x700 size.
