So this is like my first time making like reference sheets for like a species...and I'm going to do ones for all ten Monster Hunting Partners I have in my story Hunted (sooo this is a heads up that most of my newer deviations are gonna be these boring old things :'D). I maybe even make ones about Hunters in general, other monsters, and demons but honestly I know I should actually make turnarounds for my OCs ughhhhhhhIdek what I was doing...I'm hoping everything is readable/makes sense/doesn't have spelling mistakes...there's probably still like a whole lot more I've forgotten to add, but I'll probably either add more to these comments as bullet points, or I'll make the image larger to fit more text ;3;
Please note, this is not how I see all dragons/dragons in general. This is just a basic guide to how they work in my original story (and of course there are exceptions among even my own characters XD;; )

So question? Can they stay in human form indefinently? Or is there a limit? And if its the former, do they age like a human?

In this story, they age based off of their human partner's maturity. Only older adolescent and adult dragons can shapeshift, and they can stay in their human forms as long as they want, but it's more compact and uncomfortable for them (not to mention colder without being able to access their dragonfire). All these monsters have lifespans that reflect human ones, so their human forms normally represent that, and monsters are usually all hatched and given to a human hunting partner when their human turns 10 or so (ultimately beginning the human's training).

Β I'm just kind of confused on the "Dragons are the second rarest monster hunting partner despite being the first monsters to become a human's hunting parter" part. Β Do you mean that the first partners a human has is a dragon and then they change partners later or do you mean that dragons were the first monster species to be use as a hunting partner for humans?

Hoooooly Hex this is awesome!!! I adore Thea's colors so much, and this is a pretty solid ref! I especially loved the bit about today's altered dragon traits compared to those of ancient dragons, it was really insightful! I can't wait to see the rest of these!
