Description
My portion for a group project I'm doing here on DA dedicated to bringing attention to some of the more obscure but equally beautiful canid species. I was assigned the Side-Striped Jackal and Culpeo Fox , both of whom were a nice change of pace and a blast to draw. Side-Striped Jackals have the most wonderful colors, and Culpeos are such handsome, compact little fellows.Did You Know?
- The Side-Striped Jackal is one of the most omnivorous canines - up to 30% of its diet can be made up of fruits and nuts!
- The Culpeo Fox is the second largest canid in South America, after the Maned Wolf

Your lineart and digital coloring are wonderful. Both of these look like they'd make fantastic decals or t-shirt designs :>
I really like the jackal in particular, but I might be a bit biased... Side-striped are one of my favorite canids.
(One tiny note, however- I realize the outline's the same weight around the entire figure but the thickness around the whiskers seems a bit distracting.)

Thank you very much! Haha I agree about the funky whisker outlines; I should probably go back and adjust that so they're not so in-your-face.

These are great. I adore all things jackal - side-striped, golden and black-backed. My fav. is the BB, although I htink the SS is the prettiest and the G is awesome with its yote-ness.
I'm rambling, but I'm a little excited to be able to talk about them without someone jumping up and saying 'Oh yeah, Anubis rox!'

Haha x3 Real Jackals kick Anubis's ass any day of the week
Also my autocorrect tried to change Anubis to Anus and I am amused

GRUPYCASSOCKS. I LIKE IT.
Poor UK is so lacking in critters. Take some of our coyotes; they're friggin everywhere.
BE PATRIOTIC. ST GEORGE PRIDE.

Ooh, thanks for doing this! I've heard of the side-striped but never looked into it. ^^' Pretty much the only jackals I've looked at are the black-backed and golden, but this one had some very interesting markings. I heard of the Culpeo-fox from xD

New favourite jackal = side striped. o.o
& I call myself a canine (& vulpine) lover. |: This won't do at all.
You've made me want to go on a 'mission' to draw lesser-known or lesser-drawn species now. |D
(& I thought Culpeo fox was just the name of *Culpeo-Fox - FailMe!)

Haha, ikr. There are so many interesting species of the Canidae family that are rarely drawn, it's quite astounding that there isn't more art of them!

But I've never heard of the fox. I'll have to look it up.

That's pretty cool, though, I've never really looked at jackals unless it was a black-backed for reference. It's interesting to see how well you work with markings.

Black-backed were the only Jackals I'd really ever looked at, sad to say. It was interesting to compare the Side-Striped's anatomy and patterns, lot of variation in those guys

Even sadder to say I take pride in the name Jackal, yet I know so little about them. *ashamed* I should do more research. I've only ever been interested in the Egyptian jackals, or rather, Anubis. But natural jackals are way cool, too.

Anubis is a pretty interesting character - though I find Egyptian lore fascinating to begin with lol.

Lol, Egyptian lore would be much more fascinating if everyone's names didn't sound so similar to each other. I think that's why I lean more towards Greek mythology.
