Mrembo went to war a loser in his mother's eyes, but came back a full-fledged hero. He saved his older brother's life from enemy soldiers, but the lion had his throat torn into and was no longer able to speak. He also saved many other comrades on the battlefield and even was the one to claim the enemy emperor's life, thus securing his territory as their own.

Their empire celebrated Mrembo's heroism, and Avana couldn't help but notice many beautiful lionesses flirting with what was supposed to be HER mate.

After the festivities were over, Mrembo and Avana were alone. Avana was crying, because she believed that Mrembo could not possibly love her any longer, considering he was gone for years and now had many other lionesses to pick from to be his mate.

"What's wrong?" Mrembo asks gently.

"You're a hero now. You could have any lioness you wanted..."

(So that's why..) Mrembo thought. "You're right..." Avana hung her head sadly. "Good thing I already have the most beautiful lioness right here..."

Avana's face flushed and she lifted her head up. She couldn't believe her ears. He still loved her after all this time.

Mrembo pressed his face against hers. "I missed you, Peach."

"I missed you too..."
