Description
Oil on Canvas14" X 18"
I was cleaning out my studio and came across this. I had a very blurry photo of this over on my other site amongst the scraps, so I thought I'd put this up. This was the original idea for Requiem.

The planet feels heavier here, which I like. The cosmic forces are keeping it from colliding!

Thank you! Β This actually came from an idea that I am thinking of exploring more.

Originally I wanted to do a scene where everything was in shades of black except for the stars and their reflections. Β I ended up going off in a different direction which ended up with the other version of Requiem. Β I should probably revisit the original idea.

I can imagine that it would look more real with less color, but not more beautiful.Β Just a different beautiful.

I think stars look great even in good old black and white!

Thank you! Β Oddly enough this began as an attempt to do a painting entirely in shades of black.

I always love redoing some of my older works. It'd be interesting to see how it might change.

I tend to revisit favorite themes over and over. Often my younger work had more energy but had less technical quality

Maybe it isn't a lack of energy... maybe it is just that you have more control over it.

Maybe too much control. I should prop a canvas up against the wall and start throwing paint at it and have some fun.

This takes my breath away! I really feel like I'm there witnessing that magic starry show, only to notice those footprints way later. Wow! That was an excellent addition!
I love all colors you used for the stars, really give a lot of warmth to the image without taking the magical blue night feeling away. Absolutely a +fav from me!

nice! only critique i have is that the starfield and nebula in the background looks a bit static, and the moon looks a bit too close. good job otherwise, love the reflections in the water, and the colors are nice too

Thank you...I did this one to see if this approach would be more effective than the galaxy. It has possibilities on a larger scale, but I decided to go with the galaxy.

Beautiful painting. I like the deep colors very much. The way the planet kind of emerges from the image is amazing, it creates a sort of 3D effect.

Thank you! I want to follow up on this...explore the idea of a black, colorless world with a sky full of stars like you were at the center of the galaxy.

Better wait until the painting is done to feel that way...it might be a total dud(with nice mountains)!
