Description I decided to put my older work back up: I showed this before under a previous DA incarnation.
Oil on Canvas
36" X 48"
This could also be titled: The Wreck of the Kestrael. It has some damage and I plan on doing the painting over.

I can imagine somewhere on that ship, there lies a steersman who passed completely content and satisfied that all else in life had been in preparation for plunging a multi-billion dollar starship into a barren rock inhabited only by a beautiful naked woman and some grouchy seagulls.

Totally worth it.

Ah yes, that would be Ensign Berkowitz, who died with a smile on his face. His last words were:"What planet, sir?"

You're so very welcome.Β  I saw some hope there in the shadow of the fallen vessel; unsure as to whether it wrecked on the rocks or fell from the sky.Β  This definitely has a story it's telling, and background to explore.Β  Thank you for resharing it.

Welcome! Β There is a common thread that runs through several of my paintings: a kind of mental story I tell myself while working on them.On another level this painting makes reference to some life lessons in the Here-And-Now...a kind of allegory. Β But I often find, like the story I referred to earlier, that other people often find completely different stories and meanings that are just as valid as my own. Β I like doing that: painting an illustration and challenging the viewer to provide the story. I think that we humans are natural-born story tellers and that with the tiniest of prods this ancient talent can roused. Β

The imagery is inspiring; the story told within it is one of loss, pain and beautiful suffering.Β  It's simply gorgeous.

Thank you! Β When I did the painting I had in mind a tale of big dreams brought to nothing, but when I originally showed this (in a previous DA incarnation)I got into a brainstorming exchange with another Deviant. Β The story that emerged from that had the girl being a descendant of the crew of the ship. Β The ship wreck was regarded with superstitious dread by everyone except this one girl who liked to bathe and swim Β in its shadow. Β One day she gets up the nerve to paddle out to the wreck where she discovers and befriends an android who was left to guard the wreck . Β He was forgotten in the meanwhile, but, being ageless and having never received orders to the contrary, remains to faithfully guard the decaying wreck.

One thing I really like about DA is how showing my pictures seems to occasionally bring out the natural storyteller in other people.

Yeah...I bought a nice pre-made canvas for her new rendition. All I need to do is mix up some ground color(sky-blue) and get going.

Thank you! It took a lot of screwing around to get this far on it. Due to some damage I will have to redo the piece, which should result in an even better painting now that I have all but a few of the design problems worked out(The "masts" on the ship need a few changes).
