Description I decided to put some of my older pieces back up. This was previously shown under a previous DA incarnation.
Oil on Canvas 36"X 60"
I have done several revisions of this painting and I'm still not happy with it, so expect some more changes.

Thank you! I was wondering what the ruins of our civilization would look like in two or three thousand years.

You are very welcome !

You made a great concept about that; for sure
I am suspicious most of the 'modern' building material endure that much; But rocky materials surely will survive that long

I have noticed that here in the Southwest USA: the old traditional style of building  with stone and adobe (mud bricks)last forever.  The modern wood frame building disappear almost at once.

Exactly !

The stonhedge & similiar buildings probably last forever even after humans left The planet.
Thought its sad mostly modern buildings doesn't even haf a chance to time

Perhaps some buildings SHOULD disappear as soon as their builders depart.  Others, perhaps, should be built to last for as long as the planet orbits the sun.  I would not mind living in a tent or a yurt and have my artwork displayed once in a while in a building that will outlast the pyramids.

Yeah; like weapons. I don't want to think what other civilazations would think İF they find a fossilized nuclear bomb !
'' Man...
''These guys really were experts on mass destruction\s. No wonder Why they went extinct''

İndeed; some buildings even found way after; even; the planet itself is dead.
Maybe something like 'The face' from Mars.

That would be cool !

That kind of reminds me of the old Planet of the Apes movies from the 70's....the surviving humans were worshipping a nuclear bomb.

That would explains Why those humans are almost entirely mutated & deformed horribly

Keithspangle In reply to grisador [2015-08-22 22:07:14 +0000 UTC]

Of course it is also possible that an alien civilization would look at our bombs and say"Is THAT the best they had?  No wonder they went extinct!"

That İS also true !

But most scientists (except Hawkings) 'speculate' Alien civilazation gonna be peacefull Or they cannot reach This 'advanced' stage

I always worry that when I go back and rework a painting all I am doing is screwing it up worse.

kim-fairy2 In reply to Keithspangle [2013-09-26 19:09:01 +0000 UTC]

I know exactly what you mean!
When I don't finish a work within a few days, I never finish it at all because I'm not really "in" it anymore and I'm afraid I'll screw it up.. but that's ridiculous, because it's better to risk screwing something up than never finishing it.
I hope to see the end result soon

I had a model do the poses of the "lorelei" so I could correct their anatomies, then I changed their skin/fur and hair color.  I cleaned up a lot of the stuff over on the right side of the painting and back in the trees, then shot a better picture of it.

I really like it!
But - I'm sorry to say so - I liked the colours of the woman better in the old picture. With skin colour and light blue hair.
Still, it's an awesome painting

Keithspangle In reply to kim-fairy2 [2013-10-02 03:17:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I was kind of partial to the gold skin and blue/silver hair.  Problem was that it didn't work with the rest of the painting.  Perhaps i should try them again in a different setting...perhaps as a species of mermaid that had branched off from its human roots.

You should do that, I love the gold skin and blue/silver hair but the new one is really beautiful, and though I'm not sure which one is better, it's certainly not something you should regret having done. I can't wait to see more work

The idea is to have the elves, naiads, lorelei, mermaids, etc all evolving from modern humans.  I was thinking the mermaids (as opposed to the lorelei) would begin as humans with long webbed feet and fingers, and the gold skin.  Perhaps at some point their legs would fuse                                      and they would develop tail fins and become truly aquatic.

Keithspangle In reply to kim-fairy2 [2013-10-11 14:31:24 +0000 UTC]

I hope I can get to work on the idea...I was thinking of doing it as a part of a natural history text book from the future, complete with illustrations, rather than a single painting.

sounds like a great idea! you should do that!
Reminds me of Spiderwick Chronicles. Have you seen that movie? It's a children's movie but I like it; there's a man who has figured out how to be able to see all magical creatures. He studied them al; made drawings, had conversations with some of them, and made a book. Maybe you could check it out for inspiration!
Also, in our country (the netherlands), there's this guy, Rien Poortvliet, who made several books about gnomes like they really excist. He's described their homes, their food, their habits.. everything. It's wonderfully illustrated

The two examples are a bit childish, I know. But they may be able to get you some inspiration.
I really like the idea, I hope you'll go through with it

I haven't had a chance to see the Spiderwick Chronicles yet.  I think there was an English artist who also did several books on gnomes and faeries.  I'd like to do mine like a guide for visitors to a future Earth.  Perhaps I could include warnings for the over curious tourists like "Although they are very fond of sugary treats, it is not recommended that you attempt to feed Lorelei.  Giving food to one will make its companions jealous and you will then have to provide treats for all or be ready to beat a hasty retreat."
