Our name 'Halloween' comes from the Gaelic harvest festival 'Samhain'. It marked the end of summer and was celebrated by the Gaelic peoples of Ireland. You, my good sirs, have perverted this holiday so that every time any God-loving yuppie hears the word 'Halloween', they go crawling to their mommies. :/ "

Try telling that to my grandma, who was so fucking closeΒ to banning my house of Halloween a few years back because she thought it was βsatanicβ. (Mostly because of the morbid ways people decorate their houses or the spoopy costumes)

Actually, the Christianized version is indeed pretty Satanic. What's funny though, is that it was adopted by the Christians, from the Gaelic roots, as you said, and morphed into the festivities marked by feasts and warding off demons. What's great about that is that the costume bearing, initially used as a means to frighten demons away, turned into demonic masquerading. I actually love the modern Halloween specifically because it's the only holiday that celebrates being spooky, dark, and fun, instead of the sappy family oriented hug-fests that most of the other holidays are about, which is of course fine; I love all of those holidays as well. Halloween just holds a special place for me because it has the opposite mood from the others and it caters specifically to my taste; I love spooky stuff.

What many Christians do not know is that Catholics would take pagan holidays and "Christianize" them so that they could convert pagans more easily. As a Christian of Celtic descent myself, I do not see this fun day as Satanic or as a perversion. It is simply an example of how cultural practices change over time and how people of all backgrounds can get together on one event. It's nice to see that I can practice in an event that my ancestors did without having to step away from my faith.

I heard that the Christians held "All Hallows Day" on November 1st so October 31st was "All Hallow's Eve". Eventually, it was shortened to "Hollow's Eve" and then "Halloween". Either way, Halloween is not satanic. The Puritans made it a bad thing.
