LOVE FOR DA FUZZY ANDALITES.I am like, gonna get stoned for this or something, but I think Cassie and Ax would make such an great pair ... you know, once he got over this whole "humans are inferior" thing.
Whoo! Haven't done any Animorphs art in a while. Feels good! And forgive my heathen breaking of the Jake/Cassie formula ... but Jake is a boring tight-ass. Cassie doesn't even end up with him in the end. In fact, no one ends up with anyone in the end. The end really kinda sucked.

Isn't it perfect? Much better than any other pairing in the main cast. It's my head canon that Ax and Cassie got secret-married at the end of the series and no one bothered to tell Jake because they didn't buy enough cake for everyone by mistake. And also the last like, ten books just don't exist. Happy universe!

This... fits SO well O.o! I can totally see this happening lol. You know what it reminded me of at first? The scene in The Sickness(awesome book btw) where Cassie's taking care of him and before she leaves she says "Bless your baby bones"... hmm perhaps more than a maternal love?
...and yeah, the end?: sucked out loud! I ran outside to my mom screaming "Do you KNOW what she did?!? After ALL these years?!?"... years later I'm still trying to erase that from my mind lol.

Aw yeah, there was something there for sure. Jake was just a placeholder. She and Ax totally would have hooked up eventually.
By the end, I had stopped buying the books. I'm missing the last five or so. I read through the very last one in the bookstore and decided not to buy it. The ones I don't own, don't exist as far as I'm concerned. Because that end? Not what I'd been waiting some 50+ books for. Nuh-uh.

Yeah the last book was kinda depressing to be honest. Not one person could honestly say they were happy in the end, even Marco(and that's saying something). It looks like she's republishing the books(and changing little details for instance: Rachel's nickname is now Storm not Xena), so maybe she'll fix up the last book a bit... or at least add a book on lol. A continuation would be nice

Why don't I find this creepy? Oh well. Ax and Cassie were my favorite characters. Book 8 'The Alien' (I think) got me giggling at when Marco told Ax not to say anything to his dad but 'Yes' or 'No.'

Y'know, I think they'd be cute together too. They both have the whole "warlike behaviors only when necessary" attitude (though Ax does take it a little farther than Cassie, kidnapping nuke-armed jets and stuff... but anyway.)
I think this pairing was sorta hinted at in the show. Been re-watching it lately and Cassie is a little too much into Ax for just friends. XD

Ax and Cassie have a really ignored dynamic in the books too. Even when Ax was pissed at everyone, he was usually okay with Cassie. He gets pretty riled up when something happens to her, too. Secret romance? Well, if Jake had bitten it at any point, you can bet who would have been the rebound.
In the show, she was definitely more into him. There were little secret touches galore! There was a thing there. I'm not crazy.

Well, except when he found out it was her fault the Yeerks got the blue box... but then like 2 chapters later he's all "CASSIE IS YOU ALIVE!?" so yeah, perhaps he's so injured by her "betrayal" because he likes her.

Ax is so emotionally constipated, it just stops being funny after a while. The real thing that bugged me is that a lot of the characters just stop developing at some point, and Ax was one of them. All the little things about him that seemed to be changing for the better got wiped away by the end. It was very disappointing all around.

Yeah, I agree there. A lot of the characters "developed" drastically at random intervals, and usually done by a lot of telling and very little showing. The whole Animorphs concept is really cool, and (except for random filler) is pretty well-plotted... it's just not very well-written, unfortunately, which killed the characterization and made the pacing really choppy. I was really disappointed in Ax's sudden haughtiness at the end too... just thinking, "Wait, Ax wouldn't act like a pompous ass like that..." I mean I understand it's supposed to be a children's series so the characterization can't be too subtle, but it's better than not being subtle at all and botching the characters. -_-

A lot of that came from the last twenty or so books being mostly ghostwritten by other authors. K.A. outlined the plots, I believe, but didn't actually write them herself. So you get some fantastic ones like 40, with Mertil and Gafinilan, and then you get some truly crappy ones that throw continuity to the wind. So little things like character development gets lost along the way, which is frustrating as they start getting static, or worse, developing backwards to what they were before (seriously, does Ax ever get any other personal conflict than "choose between humans and Andalites"?).
The ending is what I don't get ... K.A. supposedly plotted and actually wrote the last book herself, and it just falls so completely short of everything. I think she must have been pretty desperate to end that series by then. A fifty-plus book contract is a bit of a noose around the neck, when you think about it.

Hmm. I haven't read Animorphs in a long time but this is quite a unique concept. I haven't ventured into the realm of Animorphs fanfiction either, and I don't dare to, haha. Ax has always been my fave character so I always like to see him drawn well. Great job!

but i dont get why KA Applegate described him as a blue deer/human/scorpion cross instead of saying 'he looked like a blue centaur with a bladed tail, no mouth, eye stalks growing out his head, and way too many fingers.' a lot simpler. we all know what a centaur looks like. i guess she/he doesnt.

She does use the centaur description once or twice, I remember ... but I guess she didn't know if her readers would get that at first, so she went with the blue deer thing to start off with. Or maybe the people at scholastic didn't know what a centaur was
I know I totally didn't envision Andalites right until I saw an actual picture of one on the cover ... I remember drawing my first Andalite, and it looked NOTHING like this. I must have missed the part about blue fur when they described Elfangor, because until Ax was introduced and the description reused, I thought they only had tan fur. And I gave them actual segmented scorpion's tails. They looked weeeiiiiiird ... sadly, I don't have the old pictures anymore. They were from like, grade six anyhow
