Description
Note 6/17/15: Times change and methods change. I thank everyone who has faved this and are still faving. I still color without a lineart, but I do not do it the same way that I used to (as seen on the tutorial). I think the point I'm trying to make is this is only the start. This was the start for me and the start for some of you. Find a way you're comfortable in doing your art and improve it. Help yourself to evolve. I'm glad so many people are still using this as a guide, but that doesn't mean you should follow my tutorial exactly all the time for it to be right. Find a way that fits you. Keep improving!-Kenzichi
Note: Look through the comments or read the whole description before asking your question. It may have been answered already ;D

Revised 7/29/13
*Warning: long, tedious file* ;-;
A friend here wanted a tutorial on how I color my pics so here ya go!
-This is on PAINT TOOL SAI and isn't necessarily the CORRECT way to do this.
-This doesn't mean that it is only LIMITED to Sai. You can use whatever program you want. For photoshop, for example, instead of blending you can use SMUDGE.
-I don't use a lineart and instead just sketch my picture and color over it on a different layer.
-Ask questions if you need to
-I used one layer for most of my coloring. The only exceptions are the outline for the eyes, objects or hands (if they are in front of the body) and of course background and foreground.
-You can use as many layers as you want for this method. IT'LL STILL WORK.

i do. go to save as, then save as a png file.
when it shows the png save option dialogue box press the '32bpp ARGB (each pixel have opacity)' button ^^

can you describe to me where the blend tool and blending bar (magicaltool) is located?
dam* you small resolution note book >X(
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
KENZICHII In reply to ashimameow [2010-10-15 17:23:59 +0000 UTC]
in SAI the blend tool bar is located right above the brush sizes
above the brush sizes it should be blending, dilution and persistence
if you use brush (or any other tool that lets you blend) there is a blend bar where you can lower the number (for less blending) and raise the number (for it to blend more)
um... i hope you understand
not good w/ explaining lol

50-70? 70-100?

KENZICHII In reply to ashimameow [2010-10-16 02:52:43 +0000 UTC]

does making the brush size smaler makes it easier to handle?

KENZICHII In reply to ashimameow [2010-10-16 04:01:32 +0000 UTC]
ohohoo you did~
um... i really don't know. i use a pretty big brush because i make my pictures huge (like 2000x2000 pixels), but it all depends one what you're trying to color. if it's for details, yeah, it's easier to use a smaller brush, but it all depends on what size you like to use
