Description
Full Title: Using IBL Lighting with pwSurface2 in DAZ StudioRelated Links:
Notes: most of this tutorial came from information found at Poseworks' (the makers of pwSurface2) forums. Some of the information was a little difficult to understand, so I've clarified and refined it with my own techniques, and presented it in tutorial format, but original credit for the idea can be found here [link] . I am not affiliated in any way with DAZ or Poseworks.

thank you so much those pdf files really do suck and most tutorials out there are outta focus. then they dive into modeling hexagon without explaining all the tools.

Pity you need to buy third party applications in order to use IBL in DAZ.
I wonder if there is some other simple solution?

DS3 Advanced supports IBL... it just depends if you want to fork over the $100+ for that versus the plug in $25...
If you happen to have Bryce ($35), the alternative to making an image based light map is rendering the object in an actual scene...
The content folders in Bryce also comes with some sample radiance maps, which combined with photoshop allow you to make full custom HDRI. Just open one in photoshop, paste a 180 degree rendering from Bryce, and save as a radiance. I'm using this technique to map bryce scenes as a background in my carrara animations.

Wow it would be great to have a tutorial on it then. It's so much easier to make ibls in Poser. I ditched Daz altogether last month. Some things just don't make sense and I don't like the fact that you are dependent on 3d party plugins. I do have Daz Studio 3 Advanced with the uberenvironment and if you want to make a model have shadows of leaves on it then it will only work if you buy the uberspot or whatever it is called. It really is a pain. With all the extras it turns out cheaper just to use Poser

Can you bake a complete texture to consolidate all the fx, and then use that as a color texture in a new material set, allowing you to create a new layer on top? Does DS support alpha channels? I'd use a cellular function in an alpha channel in Carrara to get shadows of leaves... hmm wonder if i can animate that? sweet you can... now if they'd let you create a function of time as a transform input...
Poser is nice... but i get the opposite response i'm looking for when i start to go tugging and pulling and rotating the figure and then i end up selecting another object with a wider arch
Is there something like powerpose in Poser Pro? It's just nicer when the dials are all abstracted in a little mock figure. I can wrap my brain around that.

Oh dear the first part was scary and technical. Really... Poser is so easy to use. Posing is easy too. You have to use the keyboard in both Carrara and poser before your model flips around or disappears to god knows where. I use Mac and it's frightening. haha I don't know if you have that in Windows. When posing a figure you can drag it by the hip and work your way out from there, that's the only trick you have to remember, no need for Power poser. I made these poses very easily with Poser: [link] I can't do it that easily with Daz and I used Daz for a little bit over a year and Poser from late October 2009, so about 2 months

This is new to me. I haven't done half as much with pw2 that I suspect is possible. Thanks much for this!

You're welcome! Out of all the plugins for DS that I have, I think pwSurface2 is one I use the most. It really can do everything!
