Homeworld of the Nauu'mani, Bel'ask is a small, dusty world orbiting a G type star rimwards of the Hanab Empire in the Norma Arm. Orbiting the star in 210 days (18 local days), it is orbited by a single moon. Bel'ask itself is much smaller and, despite its host star being younger and having a very similar metallicity to Sol, is much less denser than Earth with a very low mass and gravity, and as a result its magnetic field is just a few million years or less from shutting off as its interior cools.
With just 38% of its surface covered by water, its four continents are dominated by extensive, rust colored deserts and rocky plains with numerous visible scars of erosion left behind by the once active world. With its low gravity, many of its eroded landscapes along its former rivers and sea shores feature numerous spires and other natural sculptures that would quickly collapse under higher gravity. Periodic dust storms can cover entire hemispheres for weeks or months at a time, and when they don't rain is very scarce, leaving much of its surface exposed to intense solar rays.
Few lifeforms still thrive on its surface, most having moved underground. Among the few that still reside on the surface are the hardy, sapient nauu'mani, who have elected a fairy violent society. The center of their State, Bel'ask is nowhere near as densely populated as other capitals. Despite having access to advance technology and limitless resources coming in from asteroid mining, much of the population remains somewhat poor, with the wealth being concentrated mostly in the tribe Chiefs, the Warchiefs that comprise the leading body of the State and their Enforcers- together, they make less than 10% of the population but hold most of the power and prosperity. Because of its violent reputation, Bel'ask is far down the list of popular trading partners of much of the galaxy and holds far less power than its Warchiefs would have.
Devastation by orbital bombardment from the Hanab in response to the nauu'mani incursions in the past has left the planet to still be very underdeveloped in stark contrast to the ostentatious palaces of the elite.
