Description Crappy title, I know.

Hi @ all.

Since I have no good ideas at the moment I tried to perfect my planetmaking methods. That lead to this one. Everything (except the atmosphere) is real 3d. The landocean map has a bump-, reflectivity- and highligthmap, there are two cloudmaps with transparency- and bumpmaps. One lightsource. Rendered in Vue.
Every ctitique is welcome.

If you want to use this planet in one of your pictures feel free to do so. Just give me credit and link to it.

thanks I'll fave them for later use. I wanted to use images for examples until some original work replaces them. Aslong as there are names to know who made them and ask permission that's cool

Nice planet , however it does look like the planet texture is blured?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hoevelkamp In reply to sphereuk [2007-08-17 21:43:09 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I tried bigger textures (even tried as .jpg) but I can't get better results with my machine. The textures are already at 8000x4000 and I need some of those to get a planet like this. My experience shows that textures as .bmp work best and they can get pretty big. On this planet I used 9 maps and each map weighs about 100 mb. That's already 1 gig only in textures. Pfh... I have 2 gig RAM and it get's pretty slow (if the machine doesn't crash). Unfortunately I can't buy a better one. So, I know how to avoid blurry textures, I just simply can't avoid them. If you have a tip... I'm open to every suggestion.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sphereuk In reply to hoevelkamp [2007-08-17 21:54:32 +0000 UTC]

9 maps, how many is the actual land texture?

In most 3D programmes it has a blur in the texture box which is standard to ensure easy blending, maybe turn this down or off? I am not a fan of vue due to the grainy outcome which comes with a lot of renders so I can’t offer anymore help. Maybe you should try a 'better' programme and experiment because when it comes to vue.....its kind of basic

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

hoevelkamp In reply to sphereuk [2007-08-17 22:46:10 +0000 UTC]

The land texture consists of: one texture for land+ocean, one bumpmap, one highlightmap, one reflectionmap.

Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna check them out. Maybe it's a simple thing to fix.
