Description Four boys get together to play a game of Dungeons and Dragons. I'm not sure if this particular game set was a recent purchase, but it seems that adventure awaits with magical consequences. ~Derisyan did the drawing of this comic, ~Happy-TGer commissioned this piece and I have now colored it.

Heh...I'd probably end up as a full blooded dragon (on all fours and everything)...

Then you'd be constantly fending off would be Paladins/Knights or some such. And just try and get a quick hundred year nap without some hobbit scurring about your pile of gold. ^^

Well I didn't mean that big of a dragon, I meant one only slightly taller then a human at the shoulder...and I probably wouldn't horde gold...one less reason to be hunted really

Ah, but how would you feel about becoming a female dragon? Our friend Lou in the comic seemed pretty content about his change in gender as well as species. What would be your feelings if things happened that way for you?

Why not play D&D anyway? It's great with friends.

It would make life more interesting. Change your life with a roll of the dice. Besides your gender what sort of race would you like to experience if it were possible? I've thought about it since coloring this comic. I would be curious to know what (I forget what they are called) a half spider and half woman or perhaps half scorpion and half woman. I don't know if D&D rules would allow that but it would be fun to come across people on the road and seeing their reactions to such a sight.

Thank you Ailynn, and Happy Halloween to you!

Wow, I used to occasionally imagine being a spider woman, or being in a relationship with one. I think they're called...Driders? I think? Oooh...a scorpion woman would be awesome! I don't think I've seen one of those before!

Ohh gosh...Sorry I'm just getting around to replying to this! I hope you had a great Halloween, Christmas, and New Years....and that 2013 brings you MANY wonderful days!

The holidays were nice and I had a good time with friends. I certainly hope your holidays were just as good for you.

A scorpion woman you say? Well, that would be a great race to be a part of. There was this comic strip I saw a while ago that involved a man stepping on a scorpion and as a result he first transformed into a woman, and then half scorpion. It was something I have been trying to figure out if I could color it well enough to post and share. I might just ask the artist permission to see if I could color, but in the meantime here is the link to the black and white comic:

Nice work.

If I ever get sucked into any RPG I play, I'd probably end up as a female character.

Kimbawest In reply to GenreChallenger [2012-10-20 16:02:50 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Well, in this case his character sheet did specify that his character was a female orc. So I guess if you run female characters as well then in all likelihood you may end up magically transformed and transported into the game world. ^^

GenreChallenger In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-20 16:26:17 +0000 UTC]

That's my point. Every game that involves you creating a character has me picking female.

Kimbawest In reply to GenreChallenger [2012-10-20 16:49:05 +0000 UTC]

It becomes a self fulfilling prophesy of a sort for you then. Because you always run female characters you will become female. Seems to me those type of characters are the ones you relate to the most and find the most interesting to play. If you ever get transformed by a game, then at least you will be who you truly wanted to be.

Derisyan In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-25 09:22:21 +0000 UTC]

roleplaying is something quite interesting once you get into it. There is even different techniques and approaches. Some people want to unplug their brains. Some want to star epic tales. Some want to try different mindsets, and some do the things they want to do on real life.

The comic goes for the latter approach but personally I'm more of a "playing a different personality" guy. I like to go for an obvious stereotype (for example, a gay elf) and then play with the concept (My gay elf is a tough, warrior guy who marches headfront on battle and likes manly men)

Kimbawest In reply to Derisyan [2012-10-26 19:46:11 +0000 UTC]

When it comes to role playing games I am at a disadvantage. I tried to play it once but never could get the hang of the multi-sided dice. The nymphs I referred to are more from classical Greek Mythology. Still, I think that if a fellow had drawn up such a masculine character only to end up a sexy, but deadly nymph, then I think he'd still be somewhat unhappy about the situation.

Role playing in general can be healthy and fun to fantasize about being someone completely different that who you are. Having a situation where you have totally transformed into the exact opposite from who you are can open up a whole range of possibilities. Let's say this guy who is extremely tough suddenly finds himself being turned into a "gay elf," and now has to deal with that. Was it his subconscious desire to explore this forbidden side? Is it pure randomness that caused the change, and now he is forced to see another perspective? If it was forced upon him, then will he act really badly and cause more harm to himself as a result? My opinion for what it is worth is I would prefer to focus on the positive aspects of exploring possible pathways, rather than the negative.

Going back to the comic, Lou was man enough to want to explore the possibility of being a female Orc. Obviously the thought of playing a female character did not threaten his sense for who he was, and that identity remained intact even after he became a female. That to me shows someone who has a very healthy mind, and has a great sense of self worth.

Derisyan In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-26 21:26:54 +0000 UTC]

For player like that I would probably suggest him a dryad. They look a lot like nymphs and they skills are more in the way of charming (nymphs too, but they can pack a serious punch if they want to)

Dice is actually easy. but I can see how it can intimidate. I know I was the first times I played.

The changes of perspective are amazing. I want to play a girl one of these days, but it's a mindset hard to rp for me. I tend to overplay most of my characters. But I want to develop the idea of a girl who likes to go outdoors and practices gymnastics.

As for the comic, my wonder is the guy with the beard. I envisioned him as a rules-focused guy, and losing that kind of control is going to wreck him a little.

Kimbawest In reply to Derisyan [2012-10-26 22:10:43 +0000 UTC]

Based on the three comics I have colored from your work I'd say you have a pretty decent grasp of what adventurous females would like to do and be. Sure Korra was already a fleshed out character who had a strong desire to impact her world in a positive way. The transformed Ayla relishing her new found strength is certainly not the shrinking violet by any stretch of the imagination; she'll need guidance from Lucca to be sure. Lou (Louise) I think has an inner strength that provides a positive force for those around her. All of these women are not the typical helpless damsel in distress that requires a man to help rescue them. At least two can probably end up rescuing the shinning Knight which would be a refreshing change from the stereotypes.

I vaguely remember that in the original D&D there were players rolling the dice and playing their parts. One person was deemed the Dungeon Master who thought up the various campaigns that the players had to face. Since the Dungeon Master thought up dangers so to speak, he was just the moderator, not a participant. It was my impression that the fellow with the beard was the moderator of the game. If this is indeed the case and he truly covets the power to serve and narrate then it offers some interesting things. I think if it were me I'd change him into a genie who has to end up serving whoever possesses her lamp. She'd have to serve her master by altering certain outcomes. To have great power, but not the freedom to wield it and participate in the world like the others would be frustrating to say the least. The other option would be to have him be a disembodied spirit that is a constant guide and companion for the group. He cannot be killed or participate like the others. That might be even for frustrating for him than being a genie in a lamp.

Derisyan In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-26 22:26:13 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, in his role as master I see him as a guiding spirit, akin to shamanism. The other option is doing like the Neverending Story book and making him a wandering storyteller that his stories comes true

Yeah, I'm not sure if ~Derisyan meant to leave that blank or it was simply an oversight on his part. I did briefly entertain the notion of filling out the sheet myself but I felt like that might have been overstepping my bounds as a colorist. I think the name "Sonja" is a female name, but it might well be a male name. I did not wish to guess at this point. Still, if they continue this comic I wonder what the magic would transform this person into. If the sheet does not say what gender will it simply make him male by default or perhaps an androgynous character that isn't either gender.

At least he became the character he had created on his little sheet. Just think if he had been this huge warrior king with super powers on his sheet and the magic ignored that and decided he needed to become a sexy slave girl nymph.

Derisyan In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-25 09:26:19 +0000 UTC]

Actually, Nymphs from Second Edition kick ass. They are so beautiful their mere sight can blind a man, and seeing a naked nymph can kill you. Let me emphazise this: A nymph can kill you with a striptease.

That without counting the lore than they are dimensional travellers and have druids (who are a pretty big deal in 2nd edition) at their call.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kimbawest In reply to Derisyan [2012-10-26 19:56:21 +0000 UTC]

I mentioned the nymph thing accidentally in another post earlier in this thread thinking it was for there and not here. Like I said in that other post, I know more about classical mythology that I do about D&D. I does make sense that a game like that would have every sort of race the group encounters be one that can threaten the group because it depends on fighting, winning, and moving up in the stats.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Derisyan In reply to Kimbawest [2012-10-26 21:19:18 +0000 UTC]

Yes and no. It depends a lot of the kind of game you and your players like. I've had games without a single encounter. What I like about that lore it's the implications about plot. My players once travelled an island full of nymphs and they barely made it alive. After that they respected and feared them.

Cue a few sessions later and the big bad has... an harem of enslaved nymphs. They were actually scared of someone who could venture into that Death Island and capture such dangerous beings (and as they learned later, pissed ROYALLY the fairy queen for that. The bad guy just didn't cared.)

As a d&d player some people like the challenge. Orcs & Half-Orcs don't necessarily make the best arcane mages. If not barbarians, they are more into shamanism and druidism.

Good comic as always. Definitely a half-orc female since a normal orcish woman wouldn't be so lovely. lol
