HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!Here, have a Shadowgate excerpt:
The rock surged upward. Jasmine screamed again, kicking and struggling as it flowed over her ankles.
"Jasmine!" shouted Lief in terror. He began to scramble downward, recklessly turning to reach for her.
"No!" Jasmine shrieked. "It is too late! Lief, go on!"
The rock had enfolded her to her waist. Desperately she pulled Filli from beneath her jacket, whispered to him, and pushed him onto the stair above her.
Wailing but obedient, Filli bounded up the stairs towards Lief and leaped onto his shoulder.
"Go," Jasmine shouted. "Lief you must!"
But Lief could not leave her. And when she saw that, Jasmine lifted her hands and let herself fall back, disappearing into the mass of rock as if it were quicksand.
WHOA. Just, whoa... He can't leave her behind, she sacrifices herself for him... That is TRUE true love. Oh, and read the books people if you haven't, just read the books.
I love this one so much more than the first one ([link] ), it's amazing what changing the perspective around can do. I hope you love it too, and I really hope it doesn't upset you too much on your birthday and all...

I was in hysterics when I read this the first time, I freaked my parents out because I was crying so hard. And then at the end of the book I was sobbing again because obviously Jasmine and Barda weren't dead and I was sooooo happy that they weren't. I think the only thing that would have made me even happier is if there had been a kiss between Lief and Jasmine. I mean, come on, he thought she died! Died for him! And then, when it was all over, he found her (and Barda) alive again. That deserves a kiss. But granted I had been wanting them to kiss since the end of the first series. I think, as a kid, this would have been the only series where I was disappointed that there was no kiss/es in it.
Oh, also thank you so much for not drawing Lief as the Anime has him. The anime just about makes me want to cry whenever I flip the channel and find it on. It's just soooo bad. Your Lief is exactly how I imagined him to look, so great job!

When I clicked on this picture just now, I had no idea it was of this scene and I was overcome with emotion when I saw what it was and the look on Lief's face. I don't remember my reaction the first time I read it, but reading it since, there have definitely been tears for me too D; I love it though. I agree with you completely

It was what ~DarkestWish wanted me to draw as her birthday gift. It's one of those brilliant DQ moments where Barda and Jasmine get taken out and Lief has to face a guardian all by himself.

Thanks! I gave her a wider nose because of a picture in 'Secrets of Deltora' of a Broome woman. She looked very tribal-like, almost african-american.
Yeah, I wasn't very happy with the anime's lack of Lindal... But at least Barda got more backstory and awesome moments than he did in the books. So it wasn't all bad.

Yeah, they pretty much made all the characters act more stupid and goofier than they're supposed to be. But it is an anime, so that's to be expected.
And I love your Lindal pictures. There's no real detailed description of her, so she's really open for interpretation.

Yeah, it's really sad, but you know she gets better, so it's okay. I think I hated that guardian the most, none of the others split the trio up, did they? That was just so mean.
Also, when I first coloured this the emerald was much brighter and then the crazy fan in me had to dull it because that's what it does whenever there's evil... I'm not obsessed or anything...

Haha, true. Yet somehow we still know he's awesome. He really does get taken down alot. Actually that's a great thing about the series, the main characters get beaten down, do stupid things and aren't always right. It's refreshing.
Yeah, a spoilt and petulant child who became a super villian. Pretty impressive really, for awhile she did have everything she wanted. If only her temper wasn't so short she could've won.
