Description Eastern demonic being; A bloodthirrsty cannnibal; They are often portrayed with multiple arms and giant fangs in their mouth. I pushed the concept further, making every one of their teeth giant, nail-like fang. I imagine large portion of their brain would be dedicated to motoric function, movving those multiple arms and coordinating them during six-sworded combat. Much lesser would be left for "higher" functions of the brain, therefore making Rakshasas very primitive and brutal.

Also That's the concept of Oriental-influenced race for Slaughtermauch  I was talking about. Hope you like it.

There's something about the arms and the way they're bent. Of course you make a lot of slithery creatures, so this is not much of a suprise

Very nice depiction. The small orbs in the head, are they eyes? If so, it gives it some arachnid look.

Yup, it was intended to be spider-like.

Rakshasa comes from Hindu mythology obviously; I don't know whether they are present in modern day religion however.

Probably the best depiction of a Rakshasa I've seen, due to the inherent creepiness of it. It reminds me of a spider.

HUBLERDON [2016-05-04 22:31:46 +0000 UTC]

Quite frightening creature. Why do most people depict them with tiger-like features?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-05-05 05:29:44 +0000 UTC]

Maybe because of Heroes of Might and Magic? They had reallly cool designs of lion/tiger headed ones.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HUBLERDON In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-05-05 15:12:41 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I saw them first in an old "creature manual", apparently based on D&D.

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-05-05 17:29:02 +0000 UTC]

I see, this might be the source then. D&D is very influential.

HUBLERDON In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-05-05 23:27:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, I think it was D&D, it had beholders, rust monsters and other creatures from the game, but I'm not sure.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-05-06 05:40:04 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.  I think it not only introduced a lot of stuff but influenced how many people see legendary or mythical monsters today, like that annoying "wyverns are no dragons"

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HUBLERDON In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-05-07 18:11:01 +0000 UTC]

Not only should Wyverns qualify as Dragons they're the only flying dragon even remotely biologically plausible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-05-07 18:16:27 +0000 UTC]

are they only ones plausible? I think any dragons apart from hexapodal ones are plausible.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HUBLERDON In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-05-07 18:34:41 +0000 UTC]

Well, Flying dragons. I think flightless ones like Orms and Drakes are biologically plausible, too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

KingsOfEvilArt In reply to HUBLERDON [2016-05-07 18:45:44 +0000 UTC]

Aquuatic dragons as cetus aren't implausible either.

about the flying ones, don't forget the flying lizards. they are even called Draco. I'm wondering would it be possible for them to evolve in similar way to dragons if niche of bats and birds was empited due to some mass extinction. Insect wings aren't based on pre existing limbs afrer all. DO you thing similar way of evolving a limbless wing would be possible in vertebrate?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

HUBLERDON In reply to KingsOfEvilArt [2016-05-08 01:16:23 +0000 UTC]

Perhaps....I have no doubt ribs could evolve into flapping, wing-like structures. Whether or not they could support a large animal, however, is beyond me.

Hindu mythology! You seem to be exploring more myths outside of Greek now, if this, Tiamat, Simurgh, and the Kitsune you've drawn are any sign. The obscure stuff deserves more attention, and your unique, fantastic style! Eastern myths especially are filled with such bizarre creatures and beings that are perfect for you.

As for the drawing itself, you've perfectly captured that sense of savagery and brutish thinking. This is definitely an intelligent though still quite primitive and aggressive killer. I love the extras you've added to the design too, such as that beautiful row of horrible teeth! This is the kind of creature ancient man would shun as much as possible.

Horror in the Heights!

Kolchack: The Night Stalker might have been one of the best written television shows of the 70's and had some really scary scenes..the monsters were a bit cheesy but its why they didn't show them full on most of the time lol.

The Cops are always the biggest assholes in this show!
