Now we're getting into the Halloween/Horror stuff, and what better place to start than the darkest/best episode of Danny Phantom; hell, this episode is so good, it's actually one of creator Butch Hartman's favorite episodes of the series. BTW, when I said the series was cancelled (despite Phantom Planet being the series finale), Phantom Planet was made BECAUSE the series was ending so they decided to just slap on a conclusion. Personally, I enjoyed the ending but feel free to have your own opinion of it.Related content

We never do find out what happened to Danny's human side; he just blows up Vlad's lab and runs off. It's possible that Dark Danny (or just Dan, as I know people like to call him) probably could've tracked him down and killed him but we never actually learn his fate either way.Β

well considering dark danny ends up looming over a scared human danny i think its pretty obvious what happened
they just coudnt show it because its a kids show Β and they probs didnt want the censors on there ass

I liked this episode, but I honestly didn't love it. I find part one too slow paced and part two too fast paced, the numerous time plot paradoxes a turn off, as well as the fact that for a villain who is supposed to have no humanity, Danny's evil future self does not in any way come off as a ruthless killer in the same vein as Deathstroke the Terminator.
Also, something I pointed out over ten years ago on tv.com, I was baffled that the show got away with Danny blasting his evil self into a building and having the building crumble as a result. At the time, this episode came out just four years after 9/11, and I'm certain we all know how iffy the censors were on things that involved planes and the destruction of buildings at that time.

Episode never scared me as a kid. But now being older, I'm surprised with the stuff in this that they actually got away with. Like, attempted murder, family annihilation, mass murder, killing of a minor, more violence than usual, I can make a freaking two page list on what this episode got away with. And for that I applaud them.

It's kind of amazing that they actually USE all these elements; you can tell as dark a story as possible, as long as the imagery is being used to tell the story and not just dress it up to be dark and edgy and "hardcore" (not to be confused with stories that are ACTUALLY pretty hardcore).

There is only one thing that gets me about this episode, and I still blame the show's early cancellation brought about my Nick screwing Butch Hartman, is that the end of the episode hints at a possible return of Evil Danny and we never got it. Β Same with the whole plot point revealed in the second-last episode where Val swore to hunt down Vlad instead of Danny and then we never saw that happen either. Β It's a shame, too, because Evil Danny was a much bigger threat than Vlad.

Admirable Animations is the opposite of Mr. Enter's Animated Atrocities. I figured I'd code them the same way, and color code them in Good Green and Bad Red though.

Well, I do these reviews about twice a week for the whole month, so I'd say count on it. I might need to make more of my own review cards or something since the Atrocity and Admirable cards I use are best for polar opposites: the really bad and really good respectively, which is kinda why Animation Unknown is designed to showcase both and everything in between.

If this was strictly a ranking of the Best Danny Phantom episodes, this would be #1 (and possibly even #2, since it's an hour long special), but as a ranking of the entire Nickelodeon as a whole from 2000-2010, this would probably still be in the Top 5.Β
