Description
This actually marks the first picture I've made, of a character which I haven't read in any of the books.I've said it before, that I'm not touching Tallstar's special edition book, because in my honest opinion it sounds completely boring and as clichéd as ever; not to mention that I've been backed up in those beliefs by several retellings of annoyed readers. (I love my ranters, I really do - they save me from reading books I wouldn't want to remain etched in my memory~) ^^
Either way, I have passed over several of the character profiles on the wiki, when I was researching the family lines. And of the whole allegiance for the Windclan book, this one gal stuck out to me - Ryestalk. There was just something about her that made me feel "huh, she actually sounds like a dear."
Hence I had to draw her. And lo and behold, we also have a new breed; the Australian Mist! ;w; Of course, genetically speaking Ryestalk is the only impossible child of her parents (since their light brown coats hints to either fawn or lilac, darn), but I'll deal with that in time, likely just make Mistmouse a black tabby like usual or something, meh.
Speaking of the breed, you might notice a very peculiar shine to the Australian Mist's fur - that is caused by a very weird ticking pattern that only covers parts of their bodies; as this is caused by several genes working in combination (polygenes) I'm sorry to say I have barely a clue as it is what is going on, so really let's just nod and smile and pretend we now know exactly what this is all about lalala~

I'm really surprised Tallstar's Revenge got such bad reviews. In my opinion, it and Crookedstar's Promise are the only two super editions worth reading. Tallstar's backstory was one of the most realistic and high-quality backstories written in Warriors, in my opinion. From the moment the book begins we are introduced to a WindClan we never saw before, a WindClan divided between two factions to the point where it feels as though two separate Clans are existing within the same camp. This whole idea fascinated me. We soon realize that the fact that both Heatherstar and Reedwhisker, the two most powerful cats in the Clan, are both part of the same faction (Moor Runners) which the second faction (Tunnelers) openly resent.
It is also the first book to describe post-natal depression in a realistic, heartbreaking way. I was stunned by how believable the story and characters were considering this series is known for it's poor character development and cardboard cut-out cats who all seem to just be a singular personality trait.
Jake and Tallstar's relationship (which I interpreted as romantic) was the most believable Warrior cats couple I have ever read. I adored them together and I never expected Jake to be such a huge part of the story. The book was interesting, well-written and unpredictable. I didn't even anticipate that Jake would become such an important part of the story when he was introduced.
I see people below complaining about Talltail being angry with his mother for finding a new mate, but you need to remember that it had only been a few months since Sandgorse's death and they were all still grieving. You can't expect every character to be understanding and reasonable 24/7, no human being is like that in real life. If I were in Talltail's position, I wouldn't have the emotional capacity to be reasonable, either.
I highly recommend this book as it is my favourite out of all the Warriors series. You're missing out on a lot by skipping over it and I don't understand why anyone would form an opinion on a book before they even read the first chapter. You say it's a waste of two days of your life, but man, we're all going to die some day and you're here painting cats. Most people would consider that a waste of a few days of your life, but here you are.

Well, waste of time and waste of days, whichever it is, your attempt at striking up a debate with me died an unpleasant death the moment you decided to top your arguments with an insult to my person. Good day.

Okay. I'm going to be civil here. I agree with the first four paragraphs of Drownblaze's statement. They do make a rather convincing argument, but, like Ann said, it did die in the fifth paragraph when you insulted her. If you're going to make a debate, don't insult your opponent. There's a difference between implications and insults. A good concluding paragraph would have been: "Overall, Tallstar's Revenge is a good book that I strongly recommend picking up. Please just try to read the first chapter and see if you like it. I'm just saying I think you should see if you can check it out at your local library and see if you like it. Farewell!"That's a polite final conclusion. I'm not trying to push that you should read the Tallstar super edition, I'm just trying to make a fair compare and contrast on how you make a good argument.

I'm curious as to how leafpool has yellow eyes when her mother and father both have green. I don't think this is possible, but hey, you are the genius here! But this looks amazing! Great job!

Would it still be possible for her to be a grey colored cat when both of her parents are brown? Sorry I'm not too good with cat genetics.

KittyStorage In reply to Pounncer [2017-04-16 19:05:34 +0000 UTC]
Yes, because while both her parents are dark, they could still carry the specific gene that lightens the coat, because that is not part of the brown gene set, but a different gene altogether. ^^

You should read Tallstar's Revenge. Come on. It takes like two days. I liked the book. Read it yourself before forming opinions about it.

Doesn't matter, it'll still be two wasted days of my life I would never get back, and I refuse to do so. I've got a lot of lovely friends who're still able to read the books and so I let them expose themselves to the torture, while I reap the rewards of their annoyed complaining later lol.

I hated Tallstar's Revenge too. Uhg, so many characters were unnecessarily cruel, Heatherstar was a jerk, and I love Palebird... but she is such a downer sometimes. Usually that would but her in the hate category but, she has post natal depression and since her daughter died, it only made things worse and I kinda feel bad for her. But she is literally the only cat I liked in that book. Tallstar was such a whiner. "OH NO! My mother moved on after dad died, how awful!" no, just no! My mother moved on and honestly Tallstar, you should be happy to see her happy for once in her life!

Aye, that's kind of the impression I got from the summaries I've read, that the book is technically all about whiners... and the plot just didn't sound good enough, or even intriguing enough, that I wanted to read it. Tallstar sounded selfish and... well, weird compared to the leader-Tallstar we saw in the other books. I like the angle the Erins did with his mother, actually giving her a reason for her neglect, the depression - that's more than they did for the wicked witch Rainflower...

Ya, it could've given the readers something more than just the standard "mother don't live up to her responsibilities kid turns out an emotional wreck" - they skimmed over the fact that all relationships goes two ways.

People were ranting about TR? Interesting. Personally, it's actually my favorite of all the Special Editions. I felt like it had the most unique tone, the best storytelling, and didn't screw with canon as much as, say, Yellowfang's Secret.
It wasn't just "kitten grows up, moves through the ranks of the Clan, shennanigans happen, cats they love die, they grieve, and through the tragedy they rise to leadership/medicine catship" like CP, BP, and YS. I mean, that does sort of happen, but the focus isn't on how special the cat is and how they rise to leadership. Tallstar's faults are given more focus, and the focus of the book is him overcoming his faults and wrestling with a terrible decision.
Plus, his friendship *coughromancecough* with a certain cat is one of the best friendship/relationships I can think of in the books. ^^
But, back to the actual drawing, this looks gorgeous. I can't say I've heard of the Australian Mist before - I shall have to look it up. ^^

KittyStorage In reply to JayietheRiverWarrior [2015-11-24 10:52:05 +0000 UTC]
Well, I'm not saying many of the special editions are better, certainly most of them are really lacking too. (Yellowfang's Secret sucked, didn't fit her original story at all; Bluestar's book was over the top, and Crookedstar's book, for being a bit better, was very, very rushed. I have never been fond of either super powers or prophecies, haha.)
But still, I found no feature of interest in the summary, or what the book was about, at all - following what I have heard of it since, it's not a piece I'll be picking up, sadly. The plot was too thin, simply put. ^^'
On that, I can also do nothing but disagree. Please don't take it the wrong way, I have nothing against same-gender romance in general; but in cat fiction, I do. It's a... personal bias, based on real-life event.
Anyhow, thank you very much, I am glad you think so! Yeah the Australian Mist isn't among the most well-known breeds in the world, but it is plenty beautiful nonetheless~

YS was probably the worst for me, I liked both BP and CP pretty well, but TR was definitely my favorite.
Sorry to hear it, but that's your choice. ^^
Gotcha. I know cats can be gay in real life (well, not mating for life, I guess that's within a limited definition or whatever). But regardless, these are fairly humanized cats. They mate for life, and do many other human-like things, so I think it's fair to apply human sexualities to these characters. And I do think showing various sexualities in a childrens' series like this is really important, so I'm glad Kate and Vicky have confirmed that they consider Tall/Jake canon, at least in their own heads. It's nice to know two of the people writing/editing Warriors are thinking of their LGBT fans and representing them, even if the publishers won't allow it. ^^
It's deifinitely beautiful.

Sadly I've no idea who this kitty is, bookwise (I stopped reading after...book one of the Power of Three or whatever it was called...the inconsistencies and horrific character development at that point infuriated me, since it seems like the Erin trio just stopped caring about the plot and characters, though there's a bunch of cats that I did (and still do, ha) dearly love...)
Anyway, rant over, Ryestalk here is gorgeous! I absolutely love her face, and the shading on her coat is just...beautiful.
I'm sorry I promise I'm not stalking your gallery it's just...pretty kitties

Ah me neither actually, as in I've never read (or going to read) the book she featured in. I'm manic about finishing up book series so I read it all the way to the fourth series, but now... no more. I'm thoroughly tired of the exact same thing you said; horrible plot, no character development and favouritism to such a degree it's not even funny.
I am however very happy to hear that you like her, thank you very much!
No worries there~ xD

Hmm, peculiar, I did have some issues with the hind leg, maybe that's what you've noticed... Glad you think so, and you nailed it, I was trying to draw her looking a little longing - it was one of the things I noticed on her wiki page, that she lost her mate - perhaps this is her sadness over that loss. c:

Uggggh every time you draw a cat, I'm torn between who's my favorite! You pull out all these breeds that I only ever heard faintly of and give them such life. One of the roleplayers in TWG had a cat who was an Australian Mist, but I never knew they had such gorgeous pelt colors (this is almost what I imagined Ferncloud and Ashfur would look like, in fact, but you most defo did Ferncloud justice so no complaints here.) And I also haven't read Tallstar's Revenge (no thank you! LOL I'll just happily hear about Jake x Tallstar, though), but I love Ryestalk's name. Sounds...just pretty, to me, idk.
Anyhow, another beautiful cat in your series.

KittyStorage In reply to dehani [2015-10-20 09:13:25 +0000 UTC]
Ehehehe you flatter me, but thank you nonetheless~ ;3; Yeah the Mist is a rather obscure breed, got very little info on the net so I had to dredge up most of it from my research books on cats. And you're totally right, had the breed been involved in Thunderclan, it's likely this is how Ferncloud could've ended up, but oh well. xP
Same here, there was something about her name which was just kinda pretty, and what little I've understood of her personality appealed to me too.
Thanks *bows elegantly* xD
